Blue & Yellow king-sized monster finally done!

This project was over a year in the making, but I am pleased to say my mom & I have finally finished it! Woo-hoo! I've already sent a personal email to the ladies who contributed scraps of yellow to the project--but if I missed a contributor, then please accept our sincere thanks! We might still be looking for yellows if it weren't for you generous quilters!

Wow! That is so nice! I wish I could get my mom interested in quilting - she loves mine, but has no desire to work on one herself. Oh, well . . .

That is a beautiful, wonderful quilt, Michelle. We're proud of you and proud for you. Do please excuse the rather suggestive happy dancin' by the gators. This is mating season for them and they do get rather affectionate. Polly

That's beautiful Michelle. Amazingly (or not?) , I've never seen a quilt with 'tailored corners like that before. I really, really like it. When I do decide to make another set of quilts in our home, I do hope I remember that technique. Thanks for sharing. . In message , desert quilter writes

Great job Michelle! It always feels seemingly impossible to finish a full bed sized spread. I am still working on mine! LOL Always seems to be something else that needs doing - especially since I started working again.

LOL! Well, I'll taking happy dancing anytime, even if it is from "suggestive" gators. ;-)

That's quite the mental portrait, Polly. I'm glad my mouth wasn't full of something liquid. ROFL

And you're right, that is a beautiful quilt. I love the tailored corners. I can think of several uses for that technique, and Michelle has agreed to teach me. Whoo-hoo. Happy dancing here in very warm Seattle.

That's just beautiful, Michelle! Of course, I do love blue and yellow together. Are the tailored corners of that one stitched down, or do they hang loose?

It looks great, I'm curious about how you did the shaping, was it quilted flat, then joined and binding put on the back of those seams? or what?

My mom was already a quilter, so it was just a matter of combining our styles. She prefers a little more color control, and me, well I love scrappy quilts. So we opted for general color control, but with the blocks being made from a variety of fabrics.

Thanks Patti!

Actually got the idea for tailored corners after staying in a hotel in which the spreads had tailored corners. Thought it should work for a quilt too.

To be honest, the Lady Liberty quilt (originally titled Lady Liberty Goes Hawaiian) is my favorite too. :-)

Thanks, Taria!

Hi Anne,

You've pretty much got it figured out. The quilt was made in 4 pieces: the top and the three sides. Each piece was quilted before it was joined. As to the back of the seams, we left extra backing fabric on the pieces where they were to be seamed together, then used it to cover the seams. We whipped it down by hand.
