bummer

Newspaper said there was a quilt guild that was meeting at a church near me on the 2nd Tues of each month 7pm...Come visit! Show and Tell, BOM, Bees and much much more....come be part of the growing quilting community in this area. so i went. Didn't find a soul there. and nothing in the church bulletin saying where/when they would meet, or even mentioning them at all. Jazzercise was there and a bible study group.

sigh. was so looking forward to a group nearer to me.

That is a bummer! There was no other info in the newspaper? Have you considered starting your own quilting bee. I've been thinking about it. There is a guild 20 miles away from me but I hear that it has a large membership. I would like something smaller. I do hope you find more info on this guild close to your home.

Our large guild does a cool thing called "neighborhood circles". Basically, it's a very small group that meet together outside of the guild meeting. (Mine has six members currently, but has had between five and nine in the past -- others have more or less as the group desires). We get the best of both worlds that way -- the excellent speakers and classes a large guild can afford, but also the tight-knit friendships and support of a small group.

Our neighborhood circle has a ton of fun. We do potluck meetings and show and tell, we go to quilt shows as a group, we do "play dates" where we pick a topic we'd like to have fun with and go at it (next play date is fabric paints, paint sticks, and stamping), we go to at least one quilt class a year as a group, we do challenges, we go out to lunch and dinner together, we support each other through thick and thin, and generally have a great time in each other's company. I highly recommend a group like that!

i tried to start a neighborhood one two years ago... put messages in the neighborhood newsletter and such. got one reply and she couldn't meet at any of the times i could... she has since moved.... would LOVE to have something like that! Even have enough room for them to come here and make a mess....

and Sharon, i was thinking as i sat waiting and then wandered around that maybe they wont start til sept, but when i came home and looked at the article again it was a July clipping and it says "of every month" so i think maybe they all hid from me?! lol who knows...

Could you ring the newspaper ad. department, Kellie? They would have the original, in some form. I would imagine it was a mis-print on the paper's part. Have a bit of a 'ferret', it probably does exist somewhere/sometime!! . In message , Kellie J. Berger writes

Looks like they meet the first Monday; maybe the paper got the wrong info.

I listen & talk to some of the members on a Tx. Yahoo group. Nice folks.

thanks! it says 1st Tuesday on the meetings page. The newspaper definitely said 2nd Tuesday. 1st will work better for me anyway... might try to visit one of their Bees in the meantime.

You're right, that is Tuesday. Some of their locals hang out here: snipped-for-privacy@yahoogroups.com

One of them just posted about this quilt shop:

In the newsletter it says the 1st Tuesday (this months was on the 1st August). I looked further back in the year, and they changed from being on the 2nd Tuesday in February. Perhaps no one told the paper. We have things in our local paper years out of date - we have had two vicars since the one listed!

My thought exactly. Our guild meets informally in the summer. Since the number of attendees is down but the rent at our usual location remains the same we meet in the classroom of a local store during the summer. As about guilds at quilt shops in the area. They should have information or at least know someone who is a member. Being part of a larger group is great. You make new friends and stretch yourself trying different techniques.
