Caramel Corn update

I just wanted to report back with my CC results. I used AnnaBelle's recipe with the butter Marcella assured me would work. It was a very successful morning. My kitchen was pretty sticky although not as bad as I expected. The recipe is very easy and tastes great. I walked on the treadmill but I think I ate way more than I could walk off if I walked all the way to NYC from here! This could be dangerous for me to have around. Thanks to all that helped with suggestions and recipes. If you haven't tried it you should! Taria

Yipee for you Taria. We are on our second batch. Have to make enough to take on a trip starting Friday. First time for 11 years we will all be together at Christmas and there are only 4 of us. Last time I was in chemo. Really looking forward to our week together. Taking Caramel corn. Anna Belle

So glad it was successful!

When my sister taught me to make this she said you might as well always just make a double batch. Dangerous because then you will eat a double batch! It's hard to resist.

If you walked on the treadmill while eating caramel corn would one cancel out the other? Maybe walking while eating negates all cc calories? Kind of like broken cookies not counting.

I'm not so sure about walking while munching cancels out calories. However, I have a theory about calories in cakes -- cake has calories, right? And that's a negative. Frosting has calories, too, right? Another negative. Any school child will tell you that two negatives make one positive, so doesn't that mean that the calories from the cake and from the frosting added together become a positive, and thus calorie free?

Wait a minute!

Aren't all calories between Lucy Day (Dec. 13) and January 2 canceled for the holidays?

I'm sure I read that somewhere....

Considering the amount of austro-hungarian pastries, fruitcake, spritz, and cinnamon dips I've made they better be canceled! And still more cooking yet to be done.

Are you coming to OH? Gen

No, Gen, not Ohio. Ironically we are going to the beach in Florida. DS2 rented a house with 5 bedrooms for the four of us on St. George Island. I expect to freeze. DS 1 coming from Boston if the airlines are flying. Haven't been to Ohio for about 3 years. Maybe in May since we will have two new great, great nephews and a wedding. Plus a special high school reunion. How is Columbus? Are you getting the snow & ice? AB

We actually got snow before Christmas---hurray!!!!!! It was about 29 today, supposed to be 34 tomorrow with rain changing to ice. I could do very well without ice. Winter is my favorite season. I love snow. Gen

I was glad to see snow last week. But now that the whole Xmas mess is worked out, I want it to stop already. Don't want to be stuck here on Xmas morning with a giant ham and all the presents in Peoria.

Here are the "official" rules :-)

Christmas Cookie Rules

  1. If you eat a Christmas cookie fresh from the oven, it has no calories because everyone knows that the first cookie is the Test Cookie and thus calorie free.
  2. If you drink a diet soda after eating your second cookie, it also has no calories because the diet soda cancels out the cookie calories.
  3. If a friend comes over while you're making your Christmas cookies and needs to sample, you must sample with your friend.  Because your friend's first cookie is calories free, Rule No. 1 means that yours is too.  It would be rude to let your friend sample alone and being the friend that you are, that makes your cookie calorie free.
  4. Any cookie calories consumed while walking around will fall to your feet and eventually fall off as you move.  This is due to gravity and the density of the caloric mass.
  5. Any calories consumed during the frosting of the Christmas cookies will be used up because it takes many calories to lick excess frosting from a knife without cutting your tongue.
  6. Cookies colored red or green have very few calories.  Red ones have three and green ones have five - one calorie for each letter.  Make more red ones!
  7. Cookies eaten while watching "Miracle on 34th Street", "It's a Wonderful Life" and "A Christmas Story" have no calories because they are part of the entertainment package and not part of one's personal fuel.
  8. As always, cookie pieces contain no calories because the process of breaking the cookie causes calorie leakage.
  9. Any cookies consumed from someone else's plate have no calories since the calories rightfully belong to the other person and will cling to their plate.  We all know how calories like to cling!
  10. Any cookies consumed while feeling stressed have no calories because cookies used for medicinal purposes never have calories.  It's the rule!

that is so awesome! i totally agree with the absence of calories in cookies. this also pertains to brownies and fried food, like: french fries.
