Cherry stones - not OT

I wanted to make some patchwork chickens and the likes and the pattern says to use peas/lentils/plastic beads for weight - ie so they sit down.

Do you think that I could wash & dry the cherry stones that I have and use them?

I think that in the climate we have here that the pulses would be ate by some creepy crawley, but surely not cherry stones.

thanks

My personal thought is to not use any food type product. There's always the potential for the things to get moldy in humid weather or split in dry weather or develop odors just deteriorate with time. I'd stick with the beads or small gravel or fishing sinkers or something like that. JMHO

Having grown up around cherry orchards and the like and pitted by hand more than a lifetime's worth of cherries, they would dry out very nice and make a nice sound when moved around in the stuffed object, but when dried out they are very, very light and would have no heft to them. Bulky as a filler, but no weight.
