Chinese lantern quilt is finally finished

I was feeling like Sunny, wondering why I just couldn't finish anything. Tons of ideas and fabric sitting out ready to start a new project but I refused to even think about it until I got this one done. I have a "thing" for lanterns and wanted to try this scrappy big size lantern quilt. It will look nice in our bedroom as a throw and compliment an oriental chair and painting in the room. I have my husband holding it up and notice his foot must have been pushing out the bottom middle lantern. In real life it's nice and even with the others. I sewed a 1" cross hatch on each lantern block and that took some time too. Now, it's done and I can get on to a neat Eleanor Burns pattern that has pinwheels on it. She said she could do the top in six hours...me, probably six weeks if I'm lucky. Donna

That is so nice! Congratulations on finishing it and being able to move on to something new. Oh, and thank you for including a picture of the back - I love to see them when the quilting shows so nicely.

I love that patchwork pattern! I've never seen it before; did you design it? I usually like the traditional patterns best; this looks traditional because of its layout and the symmetry of the lantern blocks, I guess. And you did a super job on the quilting. Will I ever be that good?

Thank you Sandy and Louise for the compliments! I appreciate it. Edna Pearl, you are a sweetie. I found the pattern when I searched on Google for chinese lantern quilt. I'll post the link for you. I just printed it off and did my thing after that. I added small snowball blocks for the corner sashing squares. I was going to add a wide border on it but my husband said he liked it better very plain. (not that he really shows that much interest in my quilting but this one he did like, lol)

E.P. I have to add that having my new sewing machine has made the quilting process go so much easier. The Janome has a built in walking foot that seems to hold the sandwich so much better. It's an oversized foot and maybe that is part of it. O.K. here is the pattern link:

Donna, your quilt is wonderful; I love your fabric choices and your quilting choices too. Beautiful, just beautiful. If we can get DH's foot out of the picture, could you please do one with it artfully draped with your oriental chair and painting? We wanna see. Polly

Thank you all for your kind comments! Because Polly asked, here it is in our bedroom. I've been selling antiques for many years and have kept some of my favorites. The chair is carved wood that looks like bamboo, the chest is a deco burled walnut one with bakelite pulls and hand carved flowers on the ends. The little oil painting is off an oriental fan with a little dolly. It's from the 1920's, not professional, but I fell in love with it and had to keep. So there you are with my 'show and tell.' Your comments inspire me to keep learning this fun hobby. Donna
