commercial sites on our photo list webpage ?

Mine is somwhat commercial but I do have loads of lessons in there for beginners. Lets face it, I won't get rich on my site!!!!!!!!!!!!

No. You don't promote your business in your posts, Rita; your book is on your site as almost an "also" rather than a primary feature. ;-) What do you think about this, Rita?

If, however, an RCTQ-named link (and RCTQ is *supposed to be* non-commercial) contains promotions of "long arm" quilting I'd expect to also see hand quilting, label making, binding, sewing of other types, books, patterns, eBay sales and other related site links, just to include it all. ;-P (Kay, how much time do you have? ) And then I wouldn't go there 'cause I know who has these services by reading the posts, and I wouldn't be looking for a "long arm" service at any rate. And using the RCTQ name to promote commercial services is crossing that line between "oh, btw, she/he is a professional..." and "Hey, look: Business Link!"

Rita still has the best lesson on making continuous bias binding, IMO.

Danielle, if you send me the info, I'll make a second page for just longarm quilters who are regular participants in RCTQ.

The way I see it, the difference between your site and a strictly commercial site is that you share your personal projects.

One person wanted me to add two links that were just money-making sites -- no sharing of personal quilts. Your site is definitely not like those two.

And the worst part was, I didn't even recognize the person's name as someone who posts regularly. But then again, I haven't been lurking daily in the past month!

I most definitely DON'T want to get into another debate here on whether my posts/site/Bible Block patterns/books are commercial, so I'm quite happy to NOT have my site included if that's going to offend anyone. [OTH...my accountant would tell you my site is most definitely not commercial ]

As for a "link to the freebies", that's probably not going to work for my site or most anyone else's: in order to be able to afford to offer a photo gallery and free patterns, I often rearrange pages, so a link that bypasses the "front door" is likely to end up causing problems. As for photos of quilts [where this whole discussion started], I choose to give credit to any of the designers of quilt patterns I use: most of those are "commercial" links - to my own and others' patterns, which may or may not be free. Some folks see that as a plus; some would rather just see a photo without knowing anything about who designed the quilt: it's not worth getting feathers in a fluff over the commercial aspect.

when in doubt, Kay, just ask some of the regulars in private email about whoever it is. someone will know or at least have an opinion. no need for you to fret over anyone who you're not sure about. we all appreciate your putting all the personal links in one place for us to use. cheers, jeanne

i'm having a problem getting to my webshots page not as me, that works fine but if i was someone else going to look. says this rubbish..... Proxy Error The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server. The proxy server could not handle the request GET /search.

Reason: Error reading from remote server

is this going to go away at some point in time or what? i think i understand it for the most part but will it ever change? anything i can do to fix it? argh, ok, i can get to the albums but only thru a search there, how do i work out the link right to them so it works for others? hmmmm. the search link is just way too long and dumb. grrrrrrr. and i'm not fully awake yet so cant think straight enough to work it out on my own. oh well.... :(( not a happy camper and its muggy here this morning too, grrrrrrr. jeanne

Sounds like a decent set of guidelines to me. I can always go back to Google and search for a particular name to see if that person posts very often. And if y'all see a link in the list that really shouldn't be there, just let me know.
