Courtapple Squonk

A month or so ago I posted a pretty poor photo of a surprise design in light blue and burgandy that I'd not quilted yet. I never did have a name for it so a friend named it "CourtApple Squonk" (I have some weird yet lovely friends.) Heh. Anyway, here she is:

's also in my sig on etsy but I didn't want to make ya'll go there andwade through things to find it. I broke a _lot_ of needles attaching the back to this thing because I used the *quilt as you go* method for the floral quilting which, combined with the thick doubled fabric in the corners, added to the bulk of the thing. It weighs in at an almost hefty 4 pounds. It was during the painful quilting episode that I began to call it "Courtapple Agony". However, I gritted my teeth and finished it last night. I used Sulky's cotton 10pt thread for the first time and I can't say enough nice things about it. Truly lovely stuff if you haven't tried it.

Now that I've got that done I've been organizing things to take with me to two shows I signed up for in November. One is a big annual church bizarre in Boise and the other is the first attempt at an Indie Craft Show to take place the first of every month, sort of like a hands on, local etsy. I was inquiring around on the local craigslist one evening about other crafters and shows and got an email from a woman who is trying to get this project off the ground. I hope this goes well as it's one of the rare endevours that doesn't take a huge percentage of the profits from the artists and crafters. The motto is:

Make something! Do something!

Sans the entry fee, any profits belongs to the crafter. If anyone is around the Rose Room in downtown Boise on November 4, please stop in and say hi! It's from 10-5pm. (While I'm on that subject, I was inquiring into two of the bigger shows in Boise both *Ark In The Park* and

*Hyde Street Fair* and was floored at the entry fees of well over $200.00 PLUS they take 20% of the profits!)

But back to the work I've been doing: Taking many of the wonderful ideas thrown out here before, I've made quite a variety of items for these events running the gamut in prices. Here's a peek at what I've got so far not including my quilts and wall hangings:

I've got eyeglass cases, coasters, teapot trivets, potholders, table runners, watermelon & apple change purses, crazy quilt purses in two sizes, jean purses, pillows, placemats... And just to be _sure_ I will sell at _least_ one item, I made salt dough ornaments with my grand-daughter. (Hers are on the far left):

:) I won't be smiling though if hers sell and mine don't!

I don't quite know what to do with myself suddenly, not spending 8-12 hours a day sewing at the moment but since I've made a serious dent in my stash I'm going to do the next best thing tomorrow and go fabric shopping with a friend and then have lunch. Then, I'll bring my grandbaby home to spend the night with her Nana. I honestly can't think of a nicer way to spend a Saturday.

Oh good grief. I forgot to remove the Pitui Terrington, also a name by the same weird friends who named it Courtapple Squonk. I must really be tired!

As you were, Comrades!

I think you had to be there. :)

Thank you!

Jeesh, all she has to do is smile! She thoroughly charmed the pants off an old gentleman today in the restaurant. I should have had a quilt handy to have her sell!

what the heck is etsy??? Exactly. etsy is a two year old brain child for artists to sell their work without paying an enormous amount of money in commisions. While a wonderful concept, it's not going well in the area of recognition. They don't want to spend a lot of money on advertising and while I can respect that, it doesn't do any good to have it top heavy with millions of sellers and no buyers since almost every single person I've asked has _never_ heard of it. They'd rather the members promote it themselves so I'm doing my part. So, for a small listing fee I at least get to test the marketing waters and try and let people know about the site. And your

Thank you so much.

I really got a chance to give the stitch selection a workout on this quilt and found some I didn't even know I had. And I cannot say enough wonderful things about the Sulky thread I used.

Thank you Estelle. I do believe light blue and burgandy have always been my two favorite color combinations.

Thanks. I'm a bit weary of making things at the moment. But hopefully with a bit of a rest I'll be ready to dive into some more fabric I picked up today. I have found the most wonderful thrift store to buy from as well and it's just three doors down from the fabric shop! I never made it out of the entire side mall today.

Howdy!

Makes it even funnier to read your tag line about eBay, which seems to be where the sellers are SELLing stuff.
