Introducing Carmine, My New QI!

Carmine comes from a family member who is getting a divorce and can't keep him in an apartment so he already is family, now he just lives with us. He's 5 years old and a real delight and since he's been living with my grandson he's already child proof!

It's been 10 long months since we lost our last Shep, Mojo, so this just felt right, you know? Sometimes things just don't feel right but this does and he adjusted as if he'd always been here.

Also my grand-daughter just turned 3 and here is the quilt I made her. It's the back however that she's wild about as it's glow in the dark Care Bears! Heh. Oddly enough Care Bears were her passion on her last birthday and to my surprise she's still loyal to them.

Our daughter misses Carmine very much and has called often to see how he is so since she and our grandson will be here in a week or so I decided to make a keepsake pillow for her with his picture on it.

I had such fun doing that one I made another for a friend who has long lost two of the three dogs on the pillow:

This was the first time I used an actual fabric paper instead of reverse printing an iron on and I highly recommend this as a better method. You can iron this unlike the transfer and it's far easier to work with and gives a much better image.

In addition to that I was really getting a lot of scraps and since I'd never tried to make a scrappy quilt I decided to try one and here it is:

The dimensions are 4" squares with 2" squares on two opposing corners. I think I can understand now the allure of scrappy quilts. I kind of prefer a bit more symmetrical designs but this pattern combined both for me so I really enjoy it. I replaced my former nap quilt with this one and put the old one sampler quilt on the bed in the spare room for the babies to play on. OH! I almost forgot! A great deal of my fun these days with quilting is geared very much to kid designs and bright colors so I made these for the bedroom the babies always stay in and that contains all their toys.

OMG -- Carmine looks almost *exactly* like my GranDOGhter Gizmo! Well, except for the tail -- Gizzy's tail is only about 4" long!! It's so nice that you can give Carmine a home and keep him in the family. And that pillow for you DD is wonderful. In picture, Carmine looks like he's really having a hard time adjusting -- LOLOL! Congrats on the new QI -- he'll need to have lots of QIing lessons so that he gets up to speed :-). CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Carmine is adorable! I can see why your daughter misses him, but at least he's in excellent hands with you.

He's part lab/rottie. I'm so used to the way Shepherds walk that watching that walk of his with his high highs that gives him a sashaying strut cracks me up everytime I walk behind him. I call it his John Wayne strut.

It's so

He's just a joy and a love. He's actually much better behaved in the quilting room than the previous Sheps who used to carry off pieces of discarded fabric. He just lays there behind my chair occasionally thumping his tail in joy. When he's decided he's been ignored too much he goes and gets one of his soft chewie toys and brings it in to lay on my lap. It's as if he's always been here he's adjusted so well. The biggest bonus is something I hadn't realized, and that's he's such a clown boy he entertains us. German Shepherds are much more serious dogs by nature so Carmine's goofy labby nature is a pleasing gift.

Thank you! My grand-daughter has this fascination with pillows. A pillow made for her by my SIL has been her constant companion since she was old enough to walk. Often when Hailey comes over to Nana's she'll request a small pillow so we'll go in, choose the fabric and make a pillow that's about 3"x5" and sew it up. She's delighted with it and must have 10 of them strewn in various places from our house to her.

I sure have! I got layed off again so what better way to fill my time while I look for work again?

Thank you! I enjoyed the Dutchman's Puzzle block on the Carmine Pillow. Such a simple yet elegant one that I'd like to do again for a quilt. The Bearpaw was a real surprise. I'd had that floral fabric for well over 2 years and up until now nothing had presented itself for it to be used. Suddenly... !!

Thank you Debi. I think he's pretty cute even though if he does think he's a 95lb. lap dog!

He's got the glossiest black coat I've ever seen before and perfect white teeth. And he's truly got about the sweetest temperment I've ever seen, it's true.

Thanks Donna. Ready for hurricane season this year?

Ready as ever I guess!! We are a good ways from the coast though. We didn't get any bad weather for Katrina and just some wind with Rita. But my family all lives in Pensacola and surrounding areas--so hoping that the big storms stay away from them!! Also are the fish appliqued on the fish quilt or is it a panel?

I dread this year's season-it shows every indication as being as wacky as 2005 so lots of prayers for your family down there. I've had one relative move back into the area, Kenner, so at least it's only one person to worry about this time around I guess.

The fish are appliqued with Signature's new multi-colored polyester thread. ( I LOVE that stuff and have obtained several different colors so far.)

The background fabric is something I'd found ages ago in New Orleans and toted back to ID, hoping something would present itself that needed bubbles and water yet small as I only had purchased a yard of it at the time.

And prayers for yours in Kenner. Love the fish applique! The background is perfect for it!
