Disaster aid

Yesterday a member of my guild brought her completed king-size whole-cloth quilt to show off to our drop-in group. She packed it into one of those wheeled suitcase things, and somehow got several dots of grease from the axle onto the quilt. She hand-quilted the entire thing over the past two years. It is white muslin. We all suggested that she take some of the trimmming from the edge (it's not bound yet), and test every possible cleaning technique so as not to exacerbate the problem if some ways don't work. Has anyone any experience with black grease dots on white fabric with hundreds of hours of work in it? She is frantic. Thanks, Cat

Carbona makes a grease remover. That might work.

I've not tried it on something that precious but have successfully used dishwash*ing* detergent and also rather plain shampoo on crib quilt disasters. Of course, you wouldn't want to use either one with something weird added like coconut and cucumber. Polly

What I have had the best luck with for that kind of grease on fabrics is Goop. That salve sort of stuff in a can that car mecahanics use to clean their hands. Rub it into the spots until you see the grease disolve, then wash as usual. Takes it right out of fabric, never tried it on a quilt though.

Energine, if that is still available, should work.
