Belated re-introduction

Greetings,

I just jumped right back into RCTQ as if I'd never been away......sort of like a bossy old aunt. Could that be the reason?!!! (I do have three nephews and two nieces and will soon be a great-auntie.)

I was real active on the group about 6 or 7 years ago. Even went to a meet-up in Sisters, Oregon.

Here's the up-to-date story: Still married to Brian, the DH. Good guy.

Still have three sons, now 20, 17 and 11. DH and I are doing geriatric parenting--he's 68 and I'm 54--did I mention that he robbed the cradle???

I was blessed in having a grandmother, mother and auntie's who quilted. I can remember being under the frame. But, I took on "modern"quilting almost

20 years ago. I've made a bunch of quilts over the years. Somehow, I didn't get pictures of a lot of them, but guess I can visit them one day and take pictures!

I'm a fairly traditional quilter. I like to make "big ol' bed quilts." I see them as my arms circling around whoever is covered in a quilt. I don't always use traditional patterns or colors--I adore batiks! Am waiting for a king-sized French Braid to come back from the quilter--batiks.....it will go to my brother and sister-in-law. I'm finishing up another king-sized batik for my recently married nephew and his darling wife.

I am the prime scrounge for a Quilt for Kids group at work. We make quilts for kids in foster care in southwest Washington state. We've made over 500 quilts now. I've got a huge network of folks who pass on loads of fabrics. I go through, decide what is usable and either pass on that which is good, but not for quilts, or for the stuff that is good for nothing, I recycle. DH is really tolerant. Car in the garage????? Oh, please.........

I belong to one quilt guild--tried two but just didn't have the time. I try and go to retreats three times a year (my vacations). I love the company and support of women. With only the dog and me being females here (the two feline QI's are "former" boys), testosterone poisoning can be a frequent occurrence!

So, that is my story........nothing too exciting.

Happy Quilting!

Thank you so much, Lenore. We forget that all too often. Your words need to be posted for all of us who quilt unknown for love for the little ones and the hurting ones. For those of you whose reception has gone goofy, Lenore beautifully said, " I see them as my arms circling around whoever is covered in a quilt." Ah, yes. How wonderful it is to have the opportunity to circle around. Polly

Lenore -- I also live in a "testosterone enhanced" house hold. With my DH, my DS's (now 28, 25 and 21) and a male dog (first a german shepherd --

1990 - 2002) ... and now a yellow lab.... I can relate. Sounds like the differences in ages of my sons is pretty much the same as yours! Made life interesting over the years for sure!! The two oldest are now out, on their own. The oldest at UCLA in grad school and #2 lives in Chicago and works right downtown at Michigan Ave and Wacker.

#3 is a special needs kiddo and will be around a bit longer. For now, I also have my 21 year old nephew in residence. (long story on that one!)

So depending upon the day and my mood... my home is either "testosterone enhanced" or "estrogen deprived"!

Take care
