How to estimate how much thread

I'm just beginning to quilt a quilt that is going to be about 72 by 60. I have some thread that I'd like to use but it's a 40 wt variegated Sulky that was on clearance a year or more ago. I've got 4 of the 250 yard spools. Does anyone know if this will be enough? I'm not doing anything fancy since this needs to be done by next Monday at the latest. I haven't been doing much quilting for awhile and usually I have plenty of whatever I decide to use. I don't want to run out in the middle!

Thanks in advance,

It will be plenty! Well, if you plan to stitch very very close together it might not, but otherwise, plenty!

I do my quilting by hand, and figure on 3 spools of 150 yards each for every twin bed size quilt. Being basically paranoid, however, I always have 4 or 5 spools on hand!

I think you'll have plenty, particularly if you use something else in the bobbin. I'm close to finishing a quilt that's about 10inches bigger than yours and I used the thread in the bobbin and the total seems to be about 750 yards of 40wt thread, but I didn't plan well and I ended up with a lot of stopping and starting, which uses a lot of thread. So you should be fine, even if you use it in the bobbin as well, but if you want to be cautious I'd use something else in the bobbin.
