Hi, everyone! I've been lurking here for about a week, and decided to stop being rude and introduce myself, in the hopes that you have room for one more here.
To begin with, I was an avid quilter in the 80's and 90's (huge Jinny Beyer fan, that era), made about 20 quilts, gave them all away as gifts, and life got busy and I stopped quilting. Time passed, children grew and moved out, and I've gotten to the point where I don't have to spend every waking minute taking care of everyone else anymore. I can spend some time on me. I looked back at things I really enjoyed, and quilting was near the top of the list, so I've begun to get back into it.
I love hand piecing and quilting, so my first project will take about a year or more, but I think it's more about the process than the product (for me, at least). I'm making a double Irish chain in jewel tones on unbleached muslin, which is actually turning out more girly- looking than I would have thought, but really pretty. It's my favorite colors, an easy design to just pick up and sew (scrappy nine- patches), and lots of room for great quilting designs when I finally get there.
Let's see... I love reading, coffee, chocolate (dark), am currently living with my parents to help out with my mother (she's bedridden), and am looking forward to beginning this new chapter in my life. Thanks for listening, and hope that I can join in the discussion here; it looks like a fun group!
