In the house we had in Arizona before moving here, I had a sewing
*closet*, Jean -- you do what you have to do. Now I have a room -- it's not very big, just a spare bedroom -- small -- that I appropriated when we moved here. Other people have lovely big studios. But as long as we can quilt, we're happy. :)
Glad you've finally entered the 21st century Pat! We've had Broadband for a year now, and can't remember what it used to be like!
The kittens are such fun - very definite little characters. We have offered to keep Mia if DS decides to keep one of the current litter, but at the moment I think they want her back. We will wait and see.
Kiwi, however is all mine! He was called Kiwi because he was all black, however, he is now developing grey stripey bits. They started on his tummy, but seem to be growing as he does. He is definitely the sort of cat who never gets anything quite right, except his QI duties. He is also a very fussy eater - wont touch any tinned food, in fact he paws the ground beside it as though he is in his litter tray doing a covering up session! Can't say I blame him. So its chicken, baby rice and biscuits. I tried mixing tuna with cat milk (which he loves) today
- I'm beginning to feel like one of the mothers in the 'terrible toddler' TV programmes, trying to wean their child off a diet of only Fish Fingers and Smarties!

Oh Sally, we have just got Broadband this week (never thought it would
Oh "double drat"! Like I didn't have enough to do - Like I need another project - Like I need to spend more money I shouldn't on quilting things! But, damn, I love those "Quilted Diamonds"!!!!!
Don't sweat it Jean. Everyone here doesn't have a dedicated sewing space. A lot of us are using various rooms to quilt in. Sometimes I use the livingroom, sometimes the kitchen, and sometimes I use both those rooms plus the hallway (the ironing board fits nicely along the long wall). Everything I have, including the cutting table is totally portable and can be set up in very little time.
Once upon a time I tried making a sewing spot in one room but quickly found out, among other things, that it didn't have enough light or space in the room for sewing. Debra in VA See my quilts at
LOL! I do, too! ;) Alice, those quilted diamonds were Pati's inspiration for her gorgeous prize-winning Hoffman Challenge quilt. See what they can lead to?
Yep, unhunh. what she said. If you are doing them by hand, with the method Linda explains they make for very portable hand work after a bit of prep time. And having a hand sewing project going almost anywhere not only makes "wait" times productive, it can start interesting conversations.... with both adults and kids. (Planting a quilting "seed"?? )
I love my machine, and will do most anything I can on her, but also love to have a hand work project on the go to.
He-he! I daren't even look at them! I saw the cover of the book (and have heard Sandy talk about them), I saw a couple of Sandy's and I *could* be hooked so very easily. They look lovely. But I *have* to finish my Dear Jane first. So, I sympathise Alice! . In message , AliceW writes
Don't look at the site! I didn't order the book - oh, wait, I ordered both books. Uh Oh! And the CD! I found a great site with great prices (I think). I'll let you know if I made a good decision when they arrive.

I know Pat is the official chocolate taster, but just in case she doesn't get to your Dark chocolate fast enough, I'm willing to help her out her. Just send a piece my way.
Let me know how your color by accident experiments go. I have that book too and plan to play with dyeing myself...some day, along with all the other gazillion projects I have in my mind.
ROFLOL! You've made a good decision, Alice, trust me. ;) But what site did you find? I only have the second book so far and am thinking about getting the first one.
Ack! Why didn't I think to look there?? I've ordered from this site before, and the prices are always good -- as they definitely are this time -- as is the service. I forgot to hide my credit card....
Welcome Jean B. You certainly came to the right place for inspiration. The knowledge this group has, it's phenomenal. I'm always learning something. For the record, quilting is contagious! ;o) In no time, you'll have a chocolate and/or licorice stash as well as fabric (if you don't already have one!). Have fun!
Oh, sorry, when you said you did not hide your check book, I thought you just made a purchase. I'm glad you like the site - I had a good feeling about it but it's nice to know others liked it as well.
Yes, it does! I had over 2000 cookbooks before I stopped counting--and before I started collecting with a purpose in mind. You are ahead of me as far as quilting goes though. I have yet to buy my first things. I went to reconnoiter at Jo-Ann's yesterday, and they are having a sale on many fabrics through today only. I have a dilemma. I really shouldn't spend more money this week, but it would be stupid to pay full price in a few days. I also saw some self-healing mats etc. I need to read the FAQ and go through some of the responses to you again to see what brands I should be looking at, etc.
