Dull Gray Pink

Fabric shopping in the Swamp has to be done online. For the most part, it goes very nicely but last week two fabrics I ordered are not a pretty sight. Instead of the pastel pure pink that they appeared to be on my monitor, they are downright ugly. Both of them are a sad muddy mood that's downright depressing. Attempting an optimistic approach, perhaps they could be paired with something that would make the 'something' become even brighter. Aside from burying them in the orchard or making a whole lot of kite tails, do you have any ideas? Polly

Over dye them! You can add any color. Or try bleaching them with your next white load- and be sure to use a Color Catcher. Or save them for an 'Ugly Swap"!

Try burgundy or a very dark forest green. I think you don't do much 'dark', but try it! It's something I automatically think of first. . In message , Polly Esther writes

Send them back. Any on-line shop worth dealing with will except fabric back if returned promptly. If you have something more like the color you want like a paint chip or snip from a color ad, send it along with the fabric and ask if they have something more like what you were thinking.

Here is a suggestion that I have. I bought an Ipod case for my wife which is sort of pale Barbie Pink, and the headphones and the cord that plugs into it are Kermit the frog green. Every time I ride behind her on the bike trail and see that combo sticking out of her back Jersey pocket it gives me a lift. It looks like she is on her way to a Jimmy Buffett Concert. Very Caribbean. I think I will try something along those lines. I think it is good to step outside your "usual" color choices, once in awhile.

Send them both up to Canada where things do seem brighter when the nights begin to cool a little. jennellh (@gmail.com)

Polly, if the gray is more evident than the pink, then send one on up to me. I'm looking for pinkish gray fabric for use on a project where I want to use that fabric as the top layer of a reverse applique. The bottom layer is a hand dyed green that changes from light, bright spring green/yellow to deep green with dark swirls. Peeking through the grayish pink it's perfect. But I only have two or three blocks of the gray color and don't trust shopping online to find the perfect sh;ade of grayish pink. And I don't dye.

So, either send it on to me, or go find yourself a gorgeous, vibrant light green (think lime) to pair with it someway that uses just a bit of one to "tame" the other.

I tried your very interesting suggestions, even pulled out the Jim Henson book to see what shade Kermit green is. Thank you all but I believe I'll just try Leslie's idea and do some bleaching. If that fails, I can always mail it to Canada. Good shot, Jennell. Polly

use them on the back of wall hangings, where they won't be seen too often. Gen

Howdy!

It's good to have a product to stop the bleach. Otherwise, bleach keeps bleaching, encouraging that fabric to deteriorate. Bleach Stop or AntiChlor are neutralizers, as is ascorbic acid (Vitamin C tablets).

Other options: backing fabric. Join the Baseball Swap, cutting that rinky-dink-pink into 6 1/2" squares to "share" w/ other swappers. Use it for a rag rug; no one can tell if it gets muddy.

Thank you, Sandy. I was wondering if bleach kept 'right on ticking'. It does seem to carry a powerful bleach smell many rinses later. Polly

What a surprise. I was really expecting a response from the Poiple People. I was kind of guessing they would insist that the power of purple could bring anything to life - maybe leaning slightly towards blue or red. Perhaps we need to worry about what they might be up to. Polly

Start worrying big time cause I ain't telling and I ain't showing and I ain't having Drag and Brag for the near foreseeable future.

Figured you had enough of 'gimmes' and advisors that you didn't need my nickel's worth: )
