While thumbing through one of my favorite magazines tonight, I saw an ad with some lovely fabrics featured in it. The website is

I just briefly visited - and Oh My! What wonderful treats they have! I love the different ways you can search too. Fabric, patterns, needles and even some free patterns. Also some stuff for knitters. Has anyone purchased from this site?? Reviews?

Patti,

The shop is adorable. For you suburban house dwellers, the shop itself is just a bit larger than your walk-in closet. But there is a ton crammed in there.

There's a lovely selection of fabric. Prices are comparable to other quilt shops. They do carry some authentic Japanese fabric lines which are quite lovely. Also, the yarns are gorgeous.

NAYY.

I looked around the website at the yarn in my forever search for great yarn for preemie caps and booties. Couldn't tell which were 'Daddy helps with the laundry' proof so I emailed them. Here's their answer in case you knit or crochet baby things that aren't likely to get the 'hand wash - delicate' care. Polly

[My favorite fine yarn that is washable and dryable is the KPM and KPPPM from Koigu. Although this doesn't say "washable" on the label, we sent it out to the laundry and it came back softer than it left us. You can find it here:

Is wool a good idea for babies? I remember my mom complaining they bought a wool rug that my brother was very allergic to. I just hate to see a pretty knitted baby blanket that is all pilled and ratty looking. Wool sure would beat that. I just picked up a pair of knitting needles earlier today. It has been a lot of years since I did any knitting and that wasn't extensive. Wish me luck! Taria

Oops, Taria. Thank you. I hadn't noticed that it was wool. Perhaps I'm the messenger that somebody should shoot. I was too busy piecing a quilt top to really look closely at the yarn, I really was. (Somebody's got to quilt around here, right?) Anyhow, you are quite right. Some babies are sensitive to wool and we very seldom have a need for it here on the coast - well, except for stuffing pin cushions. Polly

I also went 'yay' and then saw the wool and had an unforgettable memory. My Godmother crocheted us an afghan for our wedding shower...DH washed it in hot water and dried it in the dryer...it was a felted baby blanket when he brought it in. We did use it for a laprobe for quite after. DH felt terrible but it was an 'eye-opener' for both of us as to the properties of wool's behavior.

Please let them know and maybe they can come up with something else for 'us'.

Thanks Butterfly

I really like the site too...... lots of fun, unique stuff. I haven't spent nearly enough time looking around - will have to save that for this weekend. Would LOVE to visit their store in NYC, even if it is the size of a closet.... lol.
