embroidery thread

I've used Coats, Madiera, Janome, and a few others..... all perform about the same for me. They all look similar, have about the same colors (except for the variegated- look for ones that change color every few inches- the ones that change at 6-8 inches aren't as pretty IMO), have about the same sheen and the same strength (not much!). I'd say start with Coats, the least expensive - available at WalMart and Joann so you can see it in person- unless you find a great sale on the others. I'm not a thread fanatic- altho I have about 600 spools which includes just about everything out there!- and am not terribly fussy and my wonderful Janome 6600 is very easy to deal with so I don't have any problems with just about any thread I try.
