I went to the quilt show at Estes Park yesterday. Marvelous quilts! One of these days I'm going to spend the whole weekend.
Our bus driver (Cheyenne club went on a bus) agreed to drop some of us at the Stanley Hotel where we had a wonderful lunch. I worked there in 1965 as a hotel maid and it's always had a soft spot in my heart ... at that time, employees weren't allowed in the bar or dining room even if we did have the money and desire to drink or eat there. It's a tourist sight all by itself and if you are ever in Estes, you should go up there to eat ... food's very good.
The quilts ... I especially liked a Hari Walner-type trapunto, a purple and lime green flying geese miniature, a cockeyed 9-patch, and a "girlfriends" cartoony sort of quilt.
My favorite vendor had Japanese fabrics that are incredibly elegant. I bought a piece with iris on it that I think might match an orange/pink/metallic gold piece I bought at a shop ... I haven't taken it downstairs yet to check. If I get around to it, it will make an elegant jacket. Or maybe I'll just hang it on the wall and look at it!
