EXTREMELY OT! I built a doggie door!!!

My hubby won't be available tomorrow to tend to The HairyButt Gang'severy want and desire while I'm in Springfield looking at quilts withJan. I had a choice of taking them to my dog trainer and friend Susanfor doggie day care, but that's $10 per day for each dog- a bit pricey. Or I could leave them alone in the house for 7-8 hrs. and hope for thebest. Or I could take Hoover The Rambuncious Puppy with me for companyand let him wait in my pick-up truck. That wouldn't be very nice to doto a sweet lil fella. So.....I bought 2 ten foot sticks of 1.25 in. PVC pipe, four 90 degree anglesand 2 Ts and built a doggie door to fit into the opening of my 6 ft.sliding glass door into the backyard! I just insert it into the doorframe and close the door up to the edge of the doggie door's frame. Imeasured Simon, the biggest of the gang and made it just above hisshoulder height and just a few inches wider than his chest. All thedogs have used the door and approve. I have the top portion coveredwith 4 thicknesses of heavy duty clear plastic drop cloth right now,but come Saturday will buy a hunk of clear acrylic sheet to cover thetop portion. Once they are comfy with using it, I will try some typeof flexible door over the opening for winter. With four really bigdogs in the fenced backyard and our very peaceful neighborhood, I haveno fears of unwanted "guests".Off to the quilt show in the morning with no worries about my preciouscanine children!Leslie & The Furbabies in MO.

Carolyn, I wasn't kidding. A nice pair of fellows came in last weekend for permission to cross our pecan grove to fish. You know about fishermen (also golfers and hunters). Real danger never crosses their minds. They caught a grand supper of catfish and a 14 foot gator. Had to apologize to the gator and let him go. Endangered species. The tree-huggers don't give a happy hoot about the fish or fishermen but, by golly, they are going to look out for our watchdogs. Gotta keep priorities straight, you know. Polly

Clifford has made himself an indoor dog since his last escape. It's his choice really. Laying in the dirt is fun, but laying inside in the a/c is even better, especially with his kitties all around. I wonder if that's what he was thinking when he would escape, because he would always be found on the porch right by the front door. After destroying one of my potted plants in the interim. Much less destruction when he just has to cross his legs a little longer a couple of days a week.

Mine mostly just loll around when it's just them and me. Nobody believes that, though. As soon as anyone comes in they go berserk.
