Fabric Mover

...I saw one at the local Viking gallery here (in the JoAnn Fabric store) this afternoon; they only had the one unit, and it was set up on a Designer SE. The sales rep who was there was the one I purchased my Viking 1+ from (and besides I go there a lot LOL)---she was doing a sewing class with about 4 ladies. She greeted me so I asked if she could answer a quick question, the price of the Fabric Mover. Her eyes lit up, she actually stopped the class, got up, and told all the ladies "Would you like to see something really cool???!!" So we all went over to the Designer, she explained all the parts of the Fabric Mover, the controller, and the options, then proceeded to demo it. Lots of 'oohs and ahhs' when she was done, and I have to admit it is cool. Smooth as silk in the movement.

$100 off introductory sale but even at $1100 it's gonna have to wait :)

Karen,

It's a nifty do-dad that attaches to the side of the machine. Its kind of like a mini-quilt frame. It holds your fabric on a 'table' of sorts that has a cut out underneath; this table moves very smoothly on ball bearings....it is designed to make free-motion quilting easy to do, and it's got a stitch regulator feature that keeps your stitches even.

I thought it was my husband! He always moves my fabric.

I tried the fabric mover and like Gen also found it awkward. I think it would be great if you are new to machine quilting - then you may be more successful 'training' your foot to simply press on the pedal and control your stitching by moving the quilt sandwich . I also think you can get control of the motion better since you would not have an ingrained technique to overcome. I was not terribly impressed with the stitching I was able to do - lots more skipping than on my machine. The mover was hooked up to a newer but not top of the line Pfaff. In addition to that I found that it is not compatible with my Pfaff 7570. So if you want one, make sure you connect it to your machine before you buy! I guess I'll have to find something else to spend $$ on. DeNise

D> Make sure you try it out first. It looks like a great idea, but after
