headwear from quilt fabric?

I'm trying to figure out if there's a way to take some of my favorite fabrics and turn them into headscarves to wear during my chemo. If I have to wear something on my head, it might as well be a fabric I love! Does anybody have a pattern, or a tip on how to do a teensy rolled hem by machine? I've never tried such a thing.

I found quite a few web sites with patterns by using google to search for CHEMO HAT PATTERN. I didn't look at many of them, but this one looks promising:

To make a narrow hem, fold the cut edge over and press; this is easier if you allow a half inch or so of extra fabric. Stitch close to the fold using a short stitch length. Trim excess fabric close to the stitching. Turn hem edge to wrong side, enclosing the raw edge, and stitch. I used this method to hem some bridesmaid's dresses and it worked well. If you have a serger, that also makes nice rolled hems.

has some patterns for using fleece, I think. I made several headscarfs for my MIL and matching tops several years ago. I remember I paid $1 to cover the postage of the pattern, but I can't rmember where I got it. Let me do some digging to see if I can find it. In the meantime, I'm sure others will have some ideas.

Thanks, Julia, for these patterns. I found one for a DooRag, just what I was looking for to make one for a friend who is going thru her mid-life crisis and bought a motorcycle. I found some Biker Betty Boop fabric she will love, and maybe even quilt up a cool vest to match! Nancycog in MD

I have one that is really a scarf with a tiny piece of elastic strung throught a casing at the back, fits well doesn't come off during sleep. I have made several for a friend she loved it said it was the best since it stayed on her head during sleep and work and in the nice cotton fabric was cool and warm...Don't we love cotton?! I used my best quilting fabrics so it was pretty , too. It's called Cathy cap came from our local hospital and I rewrote the instructions so it is easier to construct. 'Actually very easy, I made 3 in about 45 minutes once I found fabrics, elastic etc. I'll be happy to scan and send. Mauvice in Central WI USA

There is an attachment foot for the SM that can make teensy hems, particularly for verrrrry thin fabric.
