Finally getting back to quilting

Hello All.......

After leg problems and having to paint an entire apartment we have, I am back to quilting. I was going through withdrawals, believe me.

As many of you may remember, I do quilts and other things for Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. I make many baby and toddler quilts. I still consider myself a beginner and need a few ideas for these quilts. I do string and nine patch. What would you suggest for something different? Do any of you use the panels then make blocks to go around them?

Also, those of you that belong to guilds, do they help you with your quilting? Do they mentors that help? I have been thinking about either joining the Star Quilters here in Roanoke or trying to get a small group together.

Happy Easter to you all...

Warm Wishes is an easy, free pattern that I have used quite a few times for kid-size quilts.

Most of the panels I have used have been big enough for a small quilt, so all I did was sandwich and quilt. It's pretty easy to add a border or two, pieced or plain, if you need to make it bigger, and it's a quick way to do a quilt.

Guilds vary a lot, but at least a guild may be a place to meet other quilters and maybe find someone to help you.

Julia, I like this pattern. I'm going to give it a try as soon as I get through with our taxes. Still not sure about joining a guild. Have to think on it some more. But, again, thanks for this pattern.

Deanna: Some guilds run the 'club year' so it ends in June. Further, if a new member joins towards the end of that period, the dues will be reduced. So, March/April are often good time to join and meet a few people at lower fee. Besides, nothing ventured, nothing gained. PAT in VA/USA

Our guild year joins January - December, but if you join after, I think March, the dues are pro rated. If nothing else, you could go to a meeting or two to decide if it is for you.

Our guild memberships expire at various times during the year; it depends on when you join. But for $3 ($5 if we're having a nationally known speaker) you can attend a meeting for a small fee without joining.
