Free paper piecing pattern

I no longer have Adobe and therefore can't open up this free pattern sent to me by Silver Linings and thought I'd see if it interests anyone here:

What an awesome butterfly!! I hope to be able to use this at some point, as I really like butterflies...have lots of them around the house. The kitchen is my "butterfly garden"...

Don't let it scare you off though. I've made a couple of her patterns now and found a couple of things that made it surprisingly easier for me.

1) Enlarge the pattern to a size that's easier to handle. It makes those tiny pieces a lot easier to deal with. In her dog patterns, she offers up to a 10" size. That's still too tiny for my comfort level so I doubled the pattern size. 2) Once you have it enlarged, take one single section at a time and focus on it without getting too overwhelmed by the other pieces. In fact, I set those aside and print out a color photo and a small pattern size to pin up in front of me on the reference board. 3) And this is a tip Linda recommends and I can't stress it enough: Always sew the first seam with a basting stitch then check it. After you're positive it's right then tighten up your stitches to the recommended tiny amount.

I used to have the free download but it caused more problems than it was worth so I took it off. Soon though, very soon there is a brand new PC on my horizon! Then I get this old ancient dinosaur strictly devoted to EQ5 and other quilty things.

That is a first for me... after 10 years of working with computers... working as a "consultant" to individuals who need help with their computers. (software stuff... not hardware)

I have NEVER heard of anybody who had a problem with Adobe Acrobat Reader....

If I can ask... what kinds of problems were you having?

Too many to list right now, but it all revolves around a faulty CPU. Husband is an engineer (actually we both are ex-HP'ers) and has been able to isolate it there by various software and hardware trouble-shooting. We believe it probably happened in Louisana during a(or many of several lightening storm(s).We lost a tv, satellite receiver, answering machine and a modem too, all _with_ surge protectors. After that we discovered we had to physically unplug things when an electrical storm came through. ESD can do very bizarre and unpredictable things to electronic equipment. --

It occurs to me my response may have sounded somewhat abrupt and if so, I apologize. It's a sore point with me in some ways. Anyone married to or living with an engineer will tell you his or her motto is: "I can fix that"! (And we're talking about some damage to the registery.) I wish this darn thing _had_ been zapped enough to kill it instead of just wound it. I'd have had a new one ages ago! We've been married for 26 years now so you'd think I'd be adjusted to it by now. Hmmm, maybe I am adjusted to it since we're not divorced yet. :) Serenity now!

That is so kind of you to offer, Karen! But by the time I'm ready to start in on that butterfly I'll have a new computer as well as a purchased copy of Adobe and I'll just transfer that file over onto the new pc. PS This may happen sooner than I thought as now the modem it sounding bad. Yay! Bet you never thought you'd meet someone this pleased to hear their pc is about dead! :)

Thanks, Terri, for the PP pattern of a monarch butterfly. I finished my block today and appliqued it to the back of a vest, which I will be wearing to the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania Quilt Show this weekend. If any of you are attending, look for me and DH and say "Hi!" My health is improved and we look forward to the guild bus trip to the show. Nancycog in MD
