Funny story, with a small prayer beg after.....

MSM was trimming stuff in her yard, and forgot she had a barrel cactus--stuck her thumb right into it. Naturally, she immediately leaped backward (I don't know what she exclaimed, but the air is still slightly blue in the area) forgetting that the rosebush was right behind her. When I came home from work, her right arm looked like a pincushion and she had Band-Aids all over it.

Now for the prayer part: Mom is a breast cancer survivor, and has no lymph nodes in her right arm; she's been cautioned never to get any puncture wounds or even blood draws on that arm. If any of you have some prayers and good thoughts to spare, send them on to my mother.

TIA!

Prayers for an uncomplicated recovery from the gardening woes. I think I know the words she used. The air around me is tinged blue from time to time...;-)

Carolyn, good news and bad news. DH had some lymph nodes removed 25 years ago, frequently trims stuff and usually looks like a pincushion. That might not be a big problem. The bad news - years ago a neighbor of mine had to have the pad of a fingertip removed because of a barrel cactus attack. Maybe there's a cactus expert here but assuming there's not - you will want to be very watchful about the splinter / spine cactus things left in the wounds. Those invisible little things can do a heap of damage. Keep asking and checking. And, of course, we'll be glad to hold your sweet Mom up in our prayers. Polly

Thanks, folks! All those good thoughts and prayers are much appreciated. And I am keeping an eye on MSM to make sure she doesn't develop infection--and gets to the doctor promptly if something doesn't look right.

This story would be hilarious, if it weren't for the last bit, Carolyn. I'm sending lots of good thoughts for your mom. :)

No, Mom is 82 and a bit frail. She does contribute money, though, to the Susan Komer Walk (I think that's the name) in Tucson and some other BC survivor's organization. Mostly she basks in the love of her children, and grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. We're all darned happy she is still around, and the three of us who are in Arizona make sure she is cared for when needed, and left alone when she needs that. I see her daily, Pat sees her at least twice a month, and Mary sees her several times a year (you can tell who lives closest, lol, Mom and I live across the street from one another) and both of them are on call when she needs something. The rest of the kids and grands visit when they can, send money and gift cards, and keep in touch. Since we are in Tucson and most of them are in Minnesota, they love to come in the late winter/early spring and enjoy the sunshine. We get very active this time of year, and love it!

Thanks again to all of you for your prayers and good thoughts. I looked at her injuries again tonight and didn't see a single trace of redness. Although I know this is not a serious problem, I am once again grateful and amazed at the kindness and generosity of this group of quilters, and the effectiveness (sp?) of the group's prayers and thoughts.

To put this on topic, it's the first weekend in almost a year that I don't have to work and we don't have company....I am going to sew! Put the borders on my nephew's quilt and get it sandwiched, and start an appliqué thing that I have wanted to do for years, and maybe begin another Charm Star for a friend. One of the things I love about quilting is that there are so many options to chose from and so many lovely projects to have on hand!

I have Prickly Pear Cactus in my yard and now and then I have to weed it and suffer a week with these microscopic hairs that irritate you but you can't see them. I can feel for your MSM. Also on the Breast Cancer...great no positive nodes. I was cautioned when working in the yard to always wear my gloves now because of the lymph nodes. I also never let blood pressure or blood draws happen in that arm. They sell bracelets id your MSM needs one. Hugs to you mom from a survivor herself Pami
