New layout.

I randomly took down the blocks from the design wall and randomly made rows and randomly put them back up. Do we like random? Or do I need to make it more of an organized random pattern? You can look at the previous arrangement on the Webshots site.

I like the random one better, but that is just me.

I vote for random.

Thanks for weighing in Donna! I'm a bit surprised that just one random layout is getting such positive remarks. I thought I might have to tweak it a bit more.

I may have to name it that! Random Ovals! Or just Random. I think I'm getting ahead of myself. I really should finish it before I name it!

I looked BEFORE I read the others' opinions... and it appears...

the RANDOM's have it! :-) I agree -- I like the random much more than your prior layout.

Ah. Now it sings and I'm almost happy. Let's see. I can't come play at your house. You can't come whack me on the nose because the gators won't let you, unless you bring chicken. On the top row, numbers 5 and 7 are too much alike. Move one. Then, on the top row #6 and on the 2nd row #6 are almost identical. Move one. I'll go tell the gators a nice lady is coming over bringing them some chicken. They'll be ready. Polly

Ah ha! I knew I'd have a tweaker! And I'm not disappointed....I thought it would be Polly or Jeanne. Maybe both?? I'll write this down and see how it plays out when I get back to the blocks. Maybe tomorrow. Thanks for playing!

Wonder where Jeanne is? Probably up to no good. We'll hope. Now. Do you have a reliable method of pinning/numbering your blocks so you can get them stitched together in whatever order pleases you and/or us ? Simply leaving them on the design wall guarantees disaster around here. The heating system, wagging tails and vacuum cleaner hose all want to toss a few to the wind. Polly

Yes, Kathyl, I really prefer this random version, it's lovely - bright and beautiful. This is from someone who would find 'random' as difficult as a marathon!

I think I have an idea as to why the random works so much better than the graduated: when you were making the pairs of individual blocks, you chose the fabrics as they appealed to you (I think you did, anyway). If the graduated plan were to *really* work, I believe you would have had to start the planning at the fabric-pairing stage.

But: I think the random would work better even than a planned graded arrangement! . In message , KJ writes

My eyes keep getting pulled to the left - to Row 1 No.2 and Row5 No 1 (reinforced by row6 No5). Perhaps if Row 5 No 1 hopped across the other side? - but it may be that in reality the colours are more different.

I like the random arrangement - more restful to the eye, and you can appreciate the individual blocks more.
