shameless beg

there I've said it! I'm going to shamelessly beg for 2 1/2"squares of fabric. and in great detail too so people don't have to ask what kind of fabric I'm begging for ( well I said it was shameless!)

what for? I hear you ask - well I'm making a hexagon quilt with 1" sides and want to see if the 3899 hexagons needed (I know, I know - I'm totally insane LOL) can be made from as many different fabrics as possible - in other words a good old fashioned hexagon charm quilt! while I have a goodly amount of fabric in my stash there is no way on this earth that I have that many different fabrics in there (despite what my ex says on the subject LOL)

what I'm looking for: colour: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, black, brown, cream, white and taupe print/pattern: anything that reads the colour - so not a too busy a print, small prints and TOT's, leaves, flowers, geometric & mottled how many: 1 of each so all are different size: 2 1/2 inches square

what I'm *not* looking for: colour: pink and purple print: juvenile and kids prints, solids (like kona cotton)

swaps can be arranged and the biggest squishy will be rewarded with *Dutch* chocolate

well as long as you don't want them to be exactly 2 1/2" squares I'll send some. May be slightly oversized one way or the other.

Sounds like fun! I think I've finally realized that I'm not likely going to complete any insane projects like that! I would like to see someone else do it tho!

Has your address changed recently? I have about 5 years of baseball swap squares that will probably help out. :)

I'd really, really love to help you out but...... My hands are not so good right now (arthritis) and cutting a few hundred squares would do me in. Can you use scraps that are odd shaped but small enough that each will handle only one 2.5 in. square? In other words, not large scraps but irregular smallish scraps. You'll have to do your own cutting, but I'll gladly send you all the smaller scraps I have in my BIG scrap basket! Lots of them are batiks, too. VBG WARNING: proud dog-owner and ashamed smoker(s), so probably all my scraps will be slightly "contaminated".... You won't hurt my feelings if a little dog hair and smoke-odors will bother you and you have to decline my offer. I'll still love you! ;-)

Jessamy, Send me your snail mail. I left the most recent RCTQ mailing list in the old computer that has now been stripped of everything it ever knew:) I know I can make a contribution to your project.

my addy is unchanged - I haven't moved house since 1997 so my addy is the same in all the directories since I first got in it hehehe

slightly larger isn't a problem nor is not exactly square - some of the scraps I have dug up are rather lopsided and are working nicely anyway :-)

I'll see what I kind find. I'm hoping to have lots of chunks of fabric left from finished tops after this weekends retreat, so I'll cut 5" squares out of them for me and 2.5" ones for you.

Jess, You should join the Inklingo list. There is talk of a hexagon swap, with Inklingo, of course. (Inklingo is software, from Linda Franz, which prints sewing and cutting lines on the back of freezer paper backed fabrics. Very, very, extremely fine lines not in black so should wash out and not be at all visible from the front anyway. Go to the website, Linda's, and you can see more about it. ) I am working on a hexagon quilt with 1" sides now. Swore I would never do it because I did not, do not ever, want to "baste to papers" of any kind, then whipstitch the hexes together. Lots of neat things about Inklingo, and the first CD is hexes, diamonds and assorted shapes. #2 is half and quarter square triangles, and several more are planned. I am associated with this in that I love the program, and have permission to teach using it. Do not otherwise make any money from it. But with this you can machine sew, hand sew or combine the two. It is a wonderful way to go and saves sooooooooo much prep time compared to the "old fashioned way".

Sorry to run on about it..... (that is another story see later thread....) But I do love the new technology being put to use in such neat ways. (Linda has applied for a patent on this technique, it is that good and different. )

Shameless you may be but it is for a good cause. Anything to help another quilter. Send your snail mail address and I will get them off by Monday. Most may be in chunks but there will be a large variety. Hope thse work for you.

Thanks for the info Pati but I really do prefer sewing by hand as it's so hard to carry a sewing machine in my pocket when I'm out and about and hanging around in waiting rooms or sitting with my feet up on the sofa at night ;-) Papers keep my seams straight and whip stitching is actually a way I *like* sewing strangely enough LOL but for people not into English Paper Piecing this is probably the way to go
