You girls aren't alone.

I love scraps too, I have even been known to buy some one elses scraps. I watch ebay regularly for scraps.

I have just made 3 christmas stocking ornaments from scraps, some of these were squished to me from USA.

Sorry, not willing to share right now. I have been gifted in the past, once really well. Mail carrier asked if I wanted fabric. I thought more scraps. She showed up with 17 boxes from a fellow worker. I shared with my quiting circle, of course I got first pick. We had a wonderful time. There have been other sharings, but this was the biggest. I love my sign--sometimes DH not so sure. Anna Belle

Michelle: Most of us here also like scraps. I doubt the posters mean that scraps are a bad thing. I think the issue is more of bad behavior! In other words, scraps cannot be depended upon to stay neat and tidy, and do have a tendency to increase wantonly. We just wonder WHAT is going on with those scrap baskets! I mean, really, a quilter may have the equivalent of 3 yards in scraps, so she makes a twin size quilt, expecting to deplete the scraps. Instead, after she makes the quilt she finds she has 3 or more yards (equivalent) in scraps! One of life's little mysteries ... a very sweet one I think. This is harmless, but after a few years one starts to get a bit paranoid about the scraps taking over the House! ;) Pat, Scrap Happy in Virginia

Yes, Pat, i think that's the best way to sum it up! We all love our scraps, but they are like rabbits...breeding more scraps and in a hurry!! =P

Maybe , IMHO, I could start using up my stash and not buy anymore fabric...

Sorry, didnt mean to blaspheme....

Oh Karen, Karen, Karen ! . I believe I am queen of the scrappy quilt. I don't think I have been able to make anything but scrappy quilts for several years. Anytime I begin something different my scrap basket just fills up more and more. My favorite grab and go quilts are DWR's. I can use a lot of smaller pieces with this one. Of course I am working on a scrappy GMFG right now. I just finished piecing a Clam Shell using a bunch of larger scraps. Nice grab and go that one was. I am also piecing right now a Dresden Plate that is a great scrappy grab and go. Of course making a Cathedral Windows using your scraps is one that is the best and most time consuming. I am also piecing with my scraps a bunch of Depression Blocks

. This one can usemore scraps than you can imagine. I just made a dozen blocks in thelast week as I was cleaning up my scrap basket. I was also able toput to use some of the lone 1/2 square triangles I have sitting aroundhere. To say I love scrappy quilting would be an understatement. However my most favorite of all is the Tea Leaf. It is a great quilt to make and is best pieced by hand because of the curves. It is just so beautiful and done as a scrappy quilt is one of the most beautiful patterns I can think of. I have made both a King size of this one and a twin size. Both I use scraps that I had of depression era fabrics. (heck I even sort the scraps by their types and designers) .. When it comes to scraps I work with anything over 1 1/2" smaller than that I will give away. My biggest problem is pressing the pieces before I sit down to begin cutting them into the shapes I want. If you want to see some of my scrappy quilts some are on my website. Now back to working on the scrappy GMFG! julia

I keep on using my scraps in Frugal Patch blocks:

with a white-on-white background rather than the tans Marcia has used. I am trying to use all different 3-3/8" squares and so far I have made over 30 blocks with only a couple of unintentional duplications. The little rectangles do have duplicates, but my only rule with them is that I don't use the same fabric next to itself.

I think I shall stop when I have 48 blocks as that will make a 60"x80" quilt. Then I shall choose a new block to use as a "scrap-eater".

I *really* like that block Lizzy. Thanks for posting it. I think I could use it for lots of things, especially things that need just a few eg placemats. . In message , Lizzy Taylor writes

Hi Pat,

Yes, I'm sure you're right. And I do know what you mean about their bad behavior. They don't lay flat, jump out of their box(es), lay strings across the floor, and are just generally unruly. Ahem. ;-)

Part of my problem is that when I made a big move several years back, I had to decrease my stash significantly. I still don't have quite the stash I did, and my scrap box has never been as full as it was. But hey, I'm working on it! It's tough job, but somebody's got to do it.
