Our membership directory, which is only published once a year, with updates printed in the monthly newsletter, states:
The Directory is not to be used by members or non-members for the purpose of advertising, solicitation or for the promotion of political or religious viewpoints.
So far, in the 4 years that I have been a member, I have not received any SPAM that was generated from our Guild Directory.
I do! I give them the local time and temperature number.

Some businesses ask for your zip code to find out where their customer base is. I never hesitate to give them my zip, especially when traveling out of my area. Maybe they will decide to build one closer to me.

Last time I shopped at Sears the cashier asked for my name, address, and phone number. I was paying cash so I told him to invent something or lose the sale because I was not going to have my info sold to every company that would buy the list Sears was obviously collecting the info for. Here in FL (and I'm sure several other states, o'course - I know MD used to do it, too) if you have $1(?) and a vehicle tag number, you can look up someone's name and address. Don't know 'bout ya'll but the last person I want lookin' me up is someone I mighta cut off in traffic.Or some looney serial killer trollin' the interstate for his next victim.
Worse than some unscrupulous company sellin' your info, it's the STATE sellin' your info. THAT irritates ME more than anything else. :-/

Yes, ours does ... it specifically states in the by-laws (where it mentions membership and the directory) that no one's to use it for commerical purposes.
"Article 2: Membership, Section 3: The corporation shall keep a record of all members and have available a directory of members. The directory shall not be used for commercial purposes."
My other Guild also had the same statement in our directory - and they carried a "punishment" for members who sought to sell the directory info or use it for their own purposes. Punishment was immediate expulsion - not a lot, but more than most would do.

The "big guild" here puts out a roster every year. On the front is a "Confidentiality Agreement" that states: "This Roster contains confidential information and is provided solely for use by members of Arizona Quilters Guild. It is given only to members. It is not to be used for any commercial purpose. By accepting this Roster, you agree to these conditions."
The chapter I belong to, as well as the other "guild" put out a small list and the agreement is not as formal, but is understood to be the same. It is for personal use, for guild type things only.

We have a note on our renewal slips. One box to check if you will allow your information to be published, the other not published.
The membership list is for guild members only, not to be used for business or anything other than something between you and that person.
