happily typing in people's entries

This is more in the nature of a blog; something I'd normally put in my livejournal, but people who read that just won't really grok it.

The deadline for our quilt show is just a little more than a week away. The entries coming by mail are starting to really accelerate. I got entries today from about 6 people.

This year I got smarter than last year. I made up a microsoft access database to put everything in. I enter all the stuff in the "table" view, then I made all these cool reports. I made one that summarizes all the entries by "class", for ballots for the committee to vote on the winners or to see what's been entered in wearables. I made 2 for pickup/dropoff; listing all the quilts that show come from or go back to that particular site. I made one for the text for the catalog; which I'll have to blend together with the ads at the end. I made one that prints out each submitter's entries, so they can proof the information I've typed. I can do a filter on "paid" entries and find out just how many "out of guild" entries we have.

It's so cool.

Ok, so I'm a geek.

Well, it's working very well.

The toughest part oddly enough was getting the pickup/dropoff sites to sort and print right; I won't bore you.

So, here's to doing a very tangentially quilty happy dance.

You're a smart girl for entering everything this way!

Be careful though they'll want you to KEEP the job :)

The registrar for our quilt show this year did much the same thing. It was VERY impressive. Good job, Susan! Though you may get the job for every quilt show, if you're proficient at it, you won't mind because it's easy for you! I'm sure the data entry takes a big chunk of time though. KJ

Susan, I don't suppose I could get you to send me what you did, could I? I am going to have 1 1/2 days to enter the information on the 100 or so quilts so that we can get the catalogue printed before our quilt show. This year we are only going to have one week between entry and show, always before we had 2 weeks. I have assured the show chair that I will do my best, now I'm starting to panic. And the show isn't until Labor Day.
