Quite hard...The recipe said to let them cool completely then glaze w/ a lemon glaze--which i wish I hadn't done. When I got to thinking of the honey in them and one recipe says to leave them in a container for a couple of weeks, I realized that they probably are meant to mellow first before eating. Anyway, I did as the recipe said and they were very difficult to cut into bars...I tossed all the edges ! I 'm sure the glaze will be soft and even tho I put plastic between layers I'll have one big stuck tog. mess . I did put a piece of bread in the oatmeal/raisin ones I baked to soften those ...makes them all nice and soft. I'll use your mom's idea of cutting them before they cool next time !! Thanks for the input Liz!! Mary
thanks for the offer, but I think I will pass. It is in the low 40's in Sunny Southern CA. That is much too cold for me!

Over the holidays it is difficult NOT to think of and long for "home." I was born, breed, educated and earned my living in Iowa. I pause in my longing for home in Iowa when I see in the weather news how miserable the weather can be.
I've never felt quite at home in Minnesota even though I came here to live after getting out of the Navy during WWII. I've always suspected that part of that longing for my real home in Iowa is the fact that my Dad provided most all the security I felt back in those days. Though I am scheduled to speak at my 70th High School in '09, I'm afraid one foot will be in Minnesota...but it will lack the longing "for." When you're born in Iowa you can never quite forget the corn or the hog retaining pools.

LOL...I am fortunate to have a Kitchenaid mixer ...one of the stand ups and it sure did help. I'll be making them again as they have already softened a bit. This recipe calls for a bit of molasses but next one I'll find a recipe that calls only for honey . Thanks Liz !!!....Mary in VT were it is snowing again...we already have 6 inches as of last night... isn't that enough????...
