has anyone flown with SM?

Going on vacation to northern Wisconsin and want to take my SM, after all vacation is about relaxing and what better way to do that!! We used to drive with the big van but now that my DH works for the airlines it is way cheaper to fly and rent a car. My question is, has anyone flown with their SM? did you have to check it or were you able to carry it on board? Have not found anything on airport security website and they don't answer the phone!! Would feel better knowing that someone has actually done this, I won't bring it if I have to check it, that's just asking for trouble!! While I'm asking, anyone know of any LQS's in north Wisconsin, Ashland area, Duluth, Minnesota or any where between Minn/St. Paul and north WI?

Thanks for any info you can provide, Joan (from GA at the moment)

Two years ago I traveled with my Featherweight packed inside my suitcase. It didn't like the trip and had to be adjusted when I got home. The outbaound trip was OK but on the return flight they opened the bag for inspection. (you can tell because they put a little card inside the bag if they open it) I don't know if they tried to run the machine or what but it was a mess when I turned it on the first time at home. I won't travel with it again. When going to shows I don't take a class unless I can use one of their machines.

I now take lots of handwork >Going on vacation to northern Wisconsin and want to take my SM, after

what store was that? i'm sure this is just the type of shop others would love to know about. talk about customer service and saving your sanity in the process. i sure understand that level of stress, lol. i presume theres a pix of that quilt online? cheers, jeanne

the shop is in Santa Clarita (formerly Newhall) California. Can't remember the name right now but yes they were very nice. Of course there isn't a picture online. None of my quilts are on line. Recently I gathered some of my pictures to begin the process of posting them but sadly I don't even have pictures of many of my quilts. I have not been very good about documenting quilts I have given as gifts over the last 25 plus years.
