I have relied on Google for searches for years, and been well satisfied. That said, my new computer (9 months old) came with a Google desktop thing that made me nuts. I would be playing a game with friends on the internet, doing quite nicely and chatting away, and suddenly get booted out to a screen with the message that Google could not find the website, or some such nonsense. After enduring several months of this annoyance, I finally just uninstalled the damned thing. Too unreliable, and it messed up my little leisure time. I still use Google to search, but I hope the computer gods keep them off my Internet Explorer unless I call them up.

I subscribe to a service called SuperNews for both my newsgroups (via OE) and my binary newsgroups (via PowrGrab). It's well worth the small price, to me, to be able to access Usenet without delays or frustration. NAYY, just a satisfied user. There are any number of free and moderately priced services available that are better than Google for newsgroups.

Just my own personal experience, mind you, and MNSHO.
