Hey Karen!

Your email server is being naughty again. I responded to your mail about changing the format of my copy of the diretory (my machine won't open it either), and the mail was returned saying your account had been suspended for "abuse". Must be they are pegging you for a spammer based on bytes mailed in a given time frame. Slap 'em a good one!

BTW DH beat the directory into submission and got it to open in Works so I am good now.:)

Get your self a free Gmail account. I've had one for some time now and never a problem. You can even download your mail into OE for convenience.

I did and it bounced. Had a message that you needed to call your ISP.

I have not had any problem with gmail and I would be happy to have you send it to my gmail account.

I believe the issue is the email system that the documents are sent "from" rather than the "to" email system. Thanks to the spammers of the world, ISPs are very sensitive to multiple mailing of what appears to be the same document to numerous email addresses. If it appears to the ISP that spam is being sent, it shuts down the email account of the user even though it could be legitimate mail as in the Directory.

Can you tell me what program you were using to open the Directory (when it didn't work) and which one finally allowed you to open it? I am trying to collect all the problem programs so I can be prepared for next time. With the evolution of all the different types of programs, it's becoming a challenge to provide a format that works with everything, but we'll make it happen. Just need to be prepared for next time.

Okay, I see. Some things bounce and some do not. Okay, I have just emailed my service provider for advice. Thanks,

You have to remember I am on the ME machine in the house. Which we carefully preserve and maintain because it is the only one CakewalkPro will run on.

I don't use spreadsheets so I do not have a spreadsheet program of any sort, except the one in Works which I had completely forgotten about. I just generally browsed and tried opening it in anything that looked like it might be able to open a such a thing. Went through everything from wordpad (gave me a mess) to graphics workshop (wouldn't even rcognize the file was there). Neither browser worked either. Prior to 14 I got most directories in spreadsheet format, but it was rich text which opened right up in wordpad, no need to browse or anything.

If I used a word processor more often I probably would have thought of works. Then again if I used a word processor more often I would probably have a different one! lol

Ok, now it makes sense. The spreadsheet version you received would need excel or similar type program. The text version would be opened by Word or similar program. That's why Works worked.

Yah. Big ole DUH! here. I open works so seldom that I just plain forgot it was taking up memory space.

The only reason it was still on this thing at all is DH insists on keeping a word processor on every computer, but hates word. So I make him proofread for me whan I have to write something.(G)

You know, Google has a pretty good set of office programs including a word processor. Open Google and keep clicking on "more" until to get to the list.
