Hurricane alert

I see from our news that thousands are being evacuated. I have lots of fingers and toes crossed than no-one is lost or hurt in this one - it looks terrifying. r.c.t.q members get a special mention, but the prayers are for all... let us know how you all are when you get back on-line.

Once again my 86 year old mom says even if they evacuate, she's not going. Geesh! She doesn't make it easy. Been keeping in touch with her through this yet again one more hurricane. So far, so good.

yes Kate, this one is terrifying. A category 5! My God, New Orleans can not withstand that! Keeping them all in my prayers.

This one is very scarey. They are talking 25ft serges. Hurricane warnings are posted as far north as Tenn. & Kentucky. Yikes!!!

I can't seem to make myself go to bed. I just keep flipping between the Weather Channel, Fox News, CNN and MSNBC! I'm in Iowa, I don't know anyone in Louisiana , but I can't stop watching and hoping that darned thing falls apart or goes elsewhere else....but where? I suppose there are some places that wouldn't be "quite" as devestated as New Orleans, but if it stays a Category 4 or 5 it won't make much difference where it lands. It's going to be a mess...my thoughts are with all of you in the path and aftermath.

If we had cable or satellite, I'm sure I would be glued to the TV as well.

I'm so glad I visited New Orleans in 1991, because I have a feeling that what is left of it won't be anything like I saw. I sure hope that all the forecasts for destruction are not borne out..

I was there in 1996 and probably saw what you did. I have mixed feelings about New Orleans itself but will always love it as it was part of DH's and my "honeymoon tour". Would love to get back there one day.

I heard on TV this morning that most of the deaths from Andrew were after the storm. People did not realize that downed powerlines electrified the standing water. Generators improperly vented are a real danger too. Sometimes people venture out to early and get caught in the local flooding, not realizing that it only takes a couple of feet of water to float and carry off a car. Mother Nature is still the most powerful force in the universe! Linda in Tx
