I'm just stunned, Karen and all; nicely stunned, but way past surprised. So there really is very little which is beyond the collective efforts of RCTQ. Would that we could influence the world at large. Until that day, we can all enjoy our cyber 'village'. . In message , "Karen, Queen of Squishies" writes

Ladies, don't worry about it. We are going to do a little at a time. First thing we had to put a temorary patch in a hole on the back porch so we can store stuff there. Kathy

Susan,
Before we can paint we gotta tear off plaster and put up drywall. Told you guys this was an old house. Think it may still have the original wallpaper. When we get ready to start ya all can come and help. Believe it or not, it might take a little while to see my stash. LOL

As far as I know, other than perhaps a couple of personal friendships that extend outside this group, nobody here is really much for IM'ing other newsgroup readers......just not the way we tend to work. No real significance.

What are IM nicks and numbers. All I can think of is Internet Mail, and isn't that the same as e-mail?
Let me set the record straight, I was kidding when I said that, I have them all but I rarely turn any of them on. But for those that don't know what I am speaking of I am speaking of AIM's Instant messenger by AOL, which anyone can download, Yahoo's instant message program, Hotmail or MSN, both the same I think Instant messaging program and ICQ which is also an instant messenger program. Frankly, the only time I turn mine on is when I am looking for one of my Aunts or when someone from our diabetic chat group hasn't been to chat in a while I will turn on Yahoo to see if they are on it by any chance, because we do get worried when we don't hear from others.
I have also walked people through problems they were having with designing websites with it and have had people walk me through errors that I can't find on mine. I have had help with my computer using it and have helped others with theirs. Now some people use them for chatting and such but I only use mine when I really need to find someone that is more than likely on line and I need a quick response from them.

You sure you have to remove the plaster?? My parents house has plastered walls (nearly 60 years old) and they are much nicer than drywall walls. I do agree with others that it would be fun to be there and help you.
Why do you feel you are unliked? I work full time so don't rely on IM programs to communicate with members of this group.
It is one of the best news groups in the world.
I read that as 'nosey' and thought: with kids, THAT fits... ;)
Kathy, you just enjoy. You've earned it a thousand times over.
Hooray for you Kathy! Can't wait to see pictures! My house was a fixer upper as well and I love to see what others have done with theirs! Hugs,
We renovated (read this had to gut) an old farmhouse. IF you take the plaster down due to mold or in our case it had gotten so wet it was "melting" off the walls, DO NOT remove the lathe boards underneath. Ask me how I know . IF you do (and I did not know this, so we took all the termite infested wood out), it is VERY hard to run plum lines and get the drywall up somewhat straight.
Wow! That is a pretty nice christmas present! Or a present any time of the year for that matter!!!
To everyone who contributed, you guys rock. What was said earlier is prefect and should be repeated....
You should be proud, you gave someone a home!!!!
Happy holidays to you ALL!!!!!!
Howdy!
I prefer phone calls, myself. Find the number, talk to an actual Quilter, live and all that. ;-D

However, that being said, there are some of us that chat together....I just haven't been participating in any chats lately, and since the email swap over, I haven't been using IM much either.

IM is Instant Messenger. various ones to use. i use yahoo msg'r. theres also MSN usually used with a hotmail addy, AIM which is thru aol.com, others i'm sure but escapes me at present. you download/install the free/safe program onto your puter, add folks by their chosen nickname or #, some progs use one not the other, then when you're both online and want to chat you can 'instantly'.
yahoo also has option to share pix instantly, share a doodle/whiteboard screen, call one another and talk thru headset or microphone/speakers, tho headset is preferable...no feedback via the speakers, argh. the call is free, i've used that for a nearly 2 hr call/chat with one of my buddys in the Netherlans and the UK. good fun to have someone there when surfing to chat with about whatever, quilty or otherwise. but somedays i dont want to chat at all so dont even log in or sometimes i totally forget to do it, lol. right this minute i'm not logged in as i'm now incoherent, lack of sleep, overwork, old and tired. hope that splains it all enough. cheers and happy holidays!! jeanne
Maryd, I just talked to DH and I was mistaken. We ARE NOT going to tear it all off. YIPPEE. Means less money. Now I wonder if he knows how to hang wallpaper. Would liket to wallpaper some of the rooms.
