I hit a quilters jackpot at St. Vincents today

I was doing my weekly visit to my mom in the nursing home (she's 97) in a town 26 miles from us. Well, anyway, we always take a little outing and today we went to St. Vincents. OH BOY! I hit the jackpot. Some quilter must have donated their stash...4 long shelves full of fabric and half done tops, bags of completed blocks, and bags of fat quarters. I filled three plastic shopping bags full for $30. I haven't looked at all of it yet but did open up one $5 bag and it was full of Marcus fat quarters, maybe 12 in the bag! One quilt top is of a pattern that looks like canning jars. It's in a bag with fabric to finish it and was $2.00!!!!! Needless to say, I'm in quilt heaven at the moment and had to share my exceptional good luck with you all.

So much fabric, and no idea where to begin......... Donna

Where to begin? - wash it all, so that you can get a real feel for it all as you are ironing it and putting it away. What a great stroke of luck for you - and St Vincent's! . In message , dealer83 writes

I occasionally find wonderful treasure troves at the church garage sale, neighborhood garage sales, and even the Salvation Army store next door to the post office! I just scoop it all up, take it home, and spread it all out on the dining room table. Things I know I will never use or want I re-bag and put them with the stuff that I have set aside to donate to Salvation Army, GoodWill, etc. The rest of the fabrics I toss in the washer and dryer, and as I iron them I get a really good "feel" and idea as to whether I really want to keep particular pieces. Rejects go into the re-bag, and the goodies go into my stash.

One thing I always look for when there are stacks of fabrics for sale is the often-nearby stack of sheets, and I buy every sheet that is

100% cotton. They make wonderful braided or crocheted rugs!
