I'm.....

EMPLOYED! Not sure how many hours or how often right now but for the next two days I'm required to be in and learn the routine at the local LQS,

(I am affliated with them now but trust me, the website is very basic and I'm just sending ya all to look at the pictures of inside the store not to order stuff.)

Wore the rose top, navy pants and shoes....got permission to wear jeans (in good condition) and tops with small logos on them (I explained that I am slowly rebuilding a professional work wardrobe and the owner didn't seem phased by that. She said in so many words that dress is causal as long as it isn't trashy/trampy/etc.)

Showed off my work, had to tell her she bit off a bit much when trying to do a mini with really small pieces as her first PP project -- I'm gonna go through my stash of masters tonight and see if I can find something more reasonable for her to start with and then offer to attempt the teeny mini sample myself for it to go on display.

As I was getting ready to leave I was approached by a customer who had questions about a quilting frame that she purchased at a yard/estate sale -- I've asked her to provide me with pictures so I can share them with you all and get your ideas on what's missing or how to put it together. I know nothing about the basics of those, not using them and unable to picture what she was describing in my mind, I wasn't able to provide direct assistance but told her if she got me the picts, I'd pursue it with the collective knowledge bank here.

I'm so happy.....I'll need to call and leave a message this evening for the gal at Lowes, explaining the situation with hours being up in the air at the moment.

And, the reason I didn't mark this OT is -- I went ahead and purchased

1/3 yd of the most gorgeous moda marble fabric to do the corner triangles to set my block on point. I'd have loved more but not until I get some paychecks behind me. So, when I get my machine area cleared out, I'll be doing the next level on my pinwheel project -- the one that is to be MINE! -- that I did my own paper piecing pattern for. I'll get pics up as soon as it is done!

Thank you for the support, encouragement, etc.

Tricia =)

Thank you all! I am feeling great!

Except.....I'm poking around the store's website and now all of a sudden can't find the pictures I had wanted you all to see...I know I didn't hallucinate them the other day.....

The Framing link has decent shots of the back of the shop with the frame stuff but....

Ah Ha! Found it....under categories on the left, click quilting, then click Fabric...that brings up the fabric part of the store... I *knew* I had seen a picture of that on the site...

=) I'm looking forward to learning from the customers....

Howdy!

You're terrific! Way to go, Tricia. Congrats!!!

Okay, down to the basics, now: every one who ever heard that I worked at an LQS asked, "How do you make any money at that? How do you take home a paycheck?!!!?" By asking myself, "Do I want this new fabric or do I want what I'm working for (pay the bills, something for the family, new carpet in the house, bigger house)?" I got a few new pieces of fabric every now & then, and concentrated on paying the bills, got new carpet for the house, then helped save for the down-payment on this house. Because there's always more fabric coming in and I realized I couldn't have it all, didn't need it all, didn't want it all. I loved the new carpet (dark green, the new owners loved it, too, when we moved) and I love this house. Funny how the stash got bigger *after* I quit the LQS. 8->

Good for you, Tricia. You did it! And I'm sure you looked gorgeous going in. Love the bit where you already look like an LQS employee so that customers just start asking you questions before you're even on the payroll. Great for your new boss to see that, too.

Ragmop/Sandy-- *sniff* I'm so proud!

Congrats big time, Tricia! I think you just got my dream job, but I figure that if I ever work at a LQS, I'll never have a paycheck to bring home - I'll spend it all on fabric!
