I'm.....

Congrats!! I'm afraid if I got a job at the LQS, I'd end up owing them $$ at the end of the month instead of the other way around. LOL Enjoy!!

Great going Tricia. I just knew that the right job would come along and you would get it. Stand tall and proud. Way to go on the self-confidence.

Steve

Wore the rose top, navy pants and shoes....got permission to wear jeans (in good condition) and tops with small logos on them (I explained that I am slowly rebuilding a professional work wardrobe and the owner didn't seem phased by that. She said in so many words that dress is causal as long as it isn't trashy/trampy/etc.)

Showed off my work, had to tell her she bit off a bit much when trying to do a mini with really small pieces as her first PP project -- I'm gonna go through my stash of masters tonight and see if I can find something more reasonable for her to start with and then offer to attempt the teeny mini sample myself for it to go on display.

As I was getting ready to leave I was approached by a customer who had questions about a quilting frame that she purchased at a yard/estate sale -- I've asked her to provide me with pictures so I can share them with you all and get your ideas on what's missing or how to put it together. I know nothing about the basics of those, not using them and unable to picture what she was describing in my mind, I wasn't able to provide direct assistance but told her if she got me the picts, I'd pursue it with the collective knowledge bank here.

I'm so happy.....I'll need to call and leave a message this evening for the gal at Lowes, explaining the situation with hours being up in the air at the moment.

And, the reason I didn't mark this OT is -- I went ahead and purchased

1/3 yd of the most gorgeous moda marble fabric to do the corner triangles to set my block on point. I'd have loved more but not until I get some paychecks behind me. So, when I get my machine area cleared out, I'll be doing the next level on my pinwheel project -- the one that is to be MINE! -- that I did my own paper piecing pattern for. I'll get pics up as soon as it is done!

Thank you for the support, encouragement, etc.

Tricia =)

LOL!

I hear everyone's warning about not ending up owing rather than earning. The only other time I have worked in a similar situation (TSWLTH) was the summer my DH moved north from Dallas and I was saving to help him get established (wow, 10 years ago a few weeks ago). I used the questioning that Ragmop suggested when things were tempting me, and I'll have to do it again. That said, if such a thing as a 12.5 in by 12.5 in square ruler exists, I'm getting one --- that seems to be the other common size for HUGS and swaps (I already own a 6.5 by 6.5). Do they exist????

That said, I'm also still at the stage where the "fancy/pricey" stuff doesn't tempt me as much -- I'm still just in the playing stages where TSWLTH fabric is fine enough for me -- I don't feel as bad if I screw up my piecing, etc. when it only cost me a quarter of the cost of the "real" stuff. As I improve and do more actual projects that will change I'm sure but for now, it's not much of a temptation.

I had a fast moving morning today (my 4 hours went by FAST) -- although part of it was spent learning two new crafts -- I learned some of the basics in how to do locker hooking (which I'd never heard of before and NO, it has NOTHING to do with teeny bopper trollops, so don't go there) and needle punch. I hadn't done either before and so we thought it a good place to start with getting me familiar.

I didn't see the owner to offer up to try the teeny PPing sample she was trying to figure out how to do but as I understand it, I'll be working with her tomorrow morning so I'll try to bring it up then. We are talking teeny tiny pieces for this PPing that, to be honest, scare me, but I'm probably the best person on the staff now to try the product for display -- I don't think any one else has tried PPing at all and I do decently at it.

I went into work in pumps today because I had forgotten to ask about tennie shoes being appropriate or not (but took them with me, just in case). One time of watching me try to walk down the stairs and the gal I worked with today just looked at me and asked "Did you bring any other (read: comfortable sensible) shoes with you?" I took the hint and switched shoes and am relieved that my tennies will be acceptable

-- I forgot how hard it can be being on my feet for hours at a time (I'm glad the weight is coming off, even if it is slowly).

Okay, I'm tired (woke up way early this morning from nerves and excitement) and should go wash this make up off my face so I can nap without getting it all over the bedding (oh, lesson learned the hard way -- noxema in the eye is NOT pleasant.) I'll have 12 hours work in by the time Saturday night rolls around =) Now, to get students to tutor on top of it and I think things will be fine =)

I think I'll wait a month or so before I mention the website improvements (I think the owner's son or husband does that for her and I don't want to step on toes so early).

I feel so much better with a purpose to my day -- I wish I didn't

*have* to do any weekend time but that was the price to be paid for getting my tutoring hours off, and those are important to me, to stay in touch with the education system in some fashion.

Time to sleep off the migraine that's starting before it can get too strong a grip on me (weather changes).

Thanks all again for sharing in my joy and for warning about owing vs earning,

Tricia

Yes, they both exist! I have them. Mine are the Omnigrip (that's with a P, not a D, on the end) brand, which I love -- easy to move around on the fabric, stays put while cutting. Wonderful! :)

One way I use to keep from spending more money that I could afford or wanted to spend was to ask myself how many hours I would have to work to get that. More times than not the number of hours worked was just too many to buy certain things. It worked for me for years but now that I am on SSD it is hard to figure a way to do that, except for the fact I know I don't have near as much money.
