Not sure I'd dare tell them! :D

I know I am being redundant, but I loved the (old) Rowentas at quilting class I just had to have one of my own. First one started leaking like a seive after about six months. They replaced it with a brand-new one. I treated that iron better than family. I emptied it faithfully. It was never dropped. Then IT started leaking after about six months. I gave up and just started down the line at Wal Mart buying irons and taking them back. (I know, I am bad)....I took back the Black and Decker classic iron (brushed steel - it drug), I took back a Sunbeam (it got about as hot as a heating pad). Then I got to the Shark iron (I still have problems with EuroPro, because of the stupid machine that I was stupid enough to buy--now IT was definitely manufactured by Bible School Dropouts)....anyway....I like the Shark iron. It's heavy, big, has good steam, and gets hot. IIRC it's 1600 watts. I like it okay. Not as good as the Rowenta when it worked good though.

Oh boy! Thank you so much, Sherry, for giving the results of your experiments - redundant or not. Taking irons back is a major act here in the Swamp and I appreciate your doing it for me. Polly

I have and use it at the machine for flattening those freshly made pieces of quilting excellence that I regularly produce.( (Ok, hold the applause). I bought the gravity feed iron to do the ironing that is needed for clothing construction and regular weekly ironing of clothing that befalls my lowly station in life and husband in chief of fabric maintenance. This duty had been assigned early on in the marriage contract negotiations, due to my professed excellence in this field when compared with the distaste professed and demonstrated by the partner in the contract negotiations and is now considered a legacy duty within the bounds of said contract. The moral of this story is, 'be careful what you brag about'.

But imho, microwaved water for tea just doesn't taste good, boiled in a kettle is so much better.

I realized that suggesting that a microwave could substitute for a kettle was an offensive idea - much like trying to get a southerner to even taste white gravy. Just didn't want our Pat to have to suffer tea withdrawal syndrome. =) Polly

No danger of that, Polly. Leslie might have told you that I brought tea-bags with me to Paducah!!

The Conair that AliceW said was great arrived here yesterday. I am in love. It has the heft and heat of the old Rowentas. I like the way the handle fits my hand much better. Probably didn't need the headlights or surround sound but they're nice. It can do everything but talk - for which we are truly thankful. Polly

Polly - what is the model #? I'm looking at Amazon.com and there are a couple of different Conair 1500 watt irons.

Thanks! I'm glad you like your new iron :-)

This sweetheart says it's a DP3000. As you know, I don't comprehend if that's DP3zero zero zero or not. I just took whatever came up on AllBrands. They're pretty close to the Swamp and were able to deliver overnight. Dazzling, methinks. She's just been here a little while. She may climb down and go piddle all over the house while I'm sleeping but she's sure made a great first impression. I do need to mention that we are not at this time servants to a kitty. I don't know if the Conair DP3000 survives triple axle swan dives. Polly

Oh, Polly, I am so glad you like the Conair. It is model DPP3000 - zeros to be sure. I have actually used the headlight, especially on dark fabrics when I wanted to make sure the seam was really flat. I have also used the steam surge as well as the water spray. But my favorite feature is the toggle auto off. I am famous for leaving appliances on - as in curling irons. Having the option of auto off when quilting is wonderful but when I just need to press a pair of slacks for work that morning, I am assured the iron will turn off for me if I forget to turn it off. I also noticed that I can keep this iron plugged in and the soleplate stays cold. I have an iron that even when off and if plugged in, there is a very slight warm feel to the soleplate. Don't like that.

Press on, Polly!

Hate to tell ya this, but amazon.com and target.com both have the iron for $34.99. Allbrands is $49.00. Just a tip for those of us who are just plain poor and/or especially poor at this time of the year.

Sometimes you have to determine what the price will end up being after shipping and handling charges when you are shopping online, and how badly you need or want the item. Paying $49 may be worth it if you need it right away. BTDT

Well, yes. Target would have gotten me for both taxes (they must have a store in MS somewhere) and shipping. AllBrands was free shipping, no sales tax and arrived the next day. Gotta love those people. ...And poor old Miss Rowenta had become seriously incontinent. Polly
