Thank you to Polly, Roberta, Maryd and Boca Jan, I tried the red surround and it didn't match the red in the patterned piece so I tried the wider tan border and here is the result.

It looks very nice on my couch, I'm almost tempted to keep it but it will suit my sister's even better.
