do hope when you get your serviced it purrs like a newborn kitten.i'd ask them what all they do in a full servicing.i'm wondering if the timing of the 'needle as it goes down and the bobbin hooking' re the threads connecting (if that makes any sense) might be part of what is causing probs you mentioned.apparently that can go out of kilter over time and use.a bit like the timing on a car goes out of kilter and needs adjusting from time to time. just a thot. j.

Well I have all different brands of machines. I have 3 singers SMS, 3 husqvarna viking (1 serger and 2 embroidery and SMS, 1 brother SM, 1 Euro Pro SM, 1 Janoma Felter, and a Junior Miss I got when I was about 10 yrs. It only does chain stitch. If I was going to buy another machine I would probably buy Husqvarna viking. Haven't had any trouble with mine. Hope this will help. dreamboat My stuff below:

My back-up machine is currently in for a service. Its a New Home Janome

- about 18 years old. It has a free arm I wanted to use for turning some trousers up. It hadn't been used since I got my 6500,so now it refused to go backwards. I gave it a really good clean, which it needed, but then it would only go backwards, not forward at all!

So it went to the machine hospital where it will be until after Christmas when I have time to fetch it home.

They obviously don't like just sitting there doing nothing and throw a hissy fit when you take their lids off again!

Coincidence! My 6500 is at the sewing machine shop at the moment. I'll collect it at the end of the week. I finally finished sewing, knowing that I wouldn't have to do anything until after Christmas. I did use the little backup for a couple of seams, and it worked fine, thank goodness.

I hope yours comes back willing to go in both directions. I think Polly did have one that only went backwards? I also think she managed with it? Am I remembering right Polly? . In message , Sally Swindells writes

When we moved, DH and DBIL dropped my beloved Pfaff on her head. Thereafter, she only ran backwards. DD didn't see this as a problem; she just moved her chair to the other side of the SM and proceeded on. Never did bother her. Hurricane Katrina sank that dear old Pfaff in 30 ft of grossly polluted water. She was a mighty fine SM. Polly

Welcome, Karen (kz) !

We are a fun bunch, to say the least....some more than others.. good luck with your machine. mine is a 30+ old White 999, i just love it. keep her oiled and cleaned and she runs like nobody's business. I do have a newer Singer, but it's only been out of the case twice...many years ago...i wonder if it still runs?

i'll have to check on that...

more fabric is a must...have fun, and we are here to help.

I have several brands of sewing machines. I have a singer, 2 brothers and 2 Janome's. Of all of them the Janome is the best and was the best for the money. If You are looking to by a Janome and your budget is a bit tight. Keep in mind that Sears stores sell Janome machines under the Kenmore brand. You can usually save hundreds of dollars doing the Kenmore brand and don't hesitate to haggle a bit at the store many times you will be able to get a better price that way. I once went into Sears at noon and said this is how much I had to spend, I want 'that' machine and I need to be somewhere at 1p. "IF you can't sell it to me I am out the door with my cash in 20 minutes." I got the machine and saved myself over $400. !!! That machine continues to be one of my favorite machines. I use them all for different functions, My Janome (different machine) is one of the best for machine quilting. Good luck in getting the machine you want. julia
