I am new and have a ?

I have a question? My sister gave me a handmade quilt she made and gave to me last Christmas. I have been keeping it in one of those vacuum sealed bags. I want to put in on my bed, but I would like to stain guard it before I do.

I read on a web site that taking it to the dry cleaner would be a mistake due to the chemicals. The quilt is so pretty I want to preserve it. Anybody got any suggestions? Thanks in Advance.

You probably don't need to stain guard it. A lot depends on your bed's lifestyle. Do you have a cocker spaniel that likes to snuffle out mushrooms and such in the mud? three hairy-legged louts who will be dribbling pizza sauce on the bed or a sweet toddler with the accompanying Popsicle? By all means, talk to your sister about this. She may be delighted that you are keeping the quilt protected for company best - and she may be dismayed that you are not enjoying it day to day, er, ummm, make that night to night. Polly

Ask your sister how she washes her own quilts. I throw mine in the machine (lukewarm, gentle soap and a dye magnet), then in the dryer until just damp, then finish over the top of the clothes lines (out of sunlight). I wash every new quilt before giving it away. Roberta in D
