My DIL Ayako sent me a book on how to do Temari. This is a Japanese thread embroidery that originally came about as a way of making balls for children to play with. Mothers and Grandmothers would pull threads from old kimonos and wrap a base to make the ball. these are reminiscent of American rag balls. Since rubber ball came in to being temari is now an art form.
By the way the book Aya sent me was all in Japanese but I was able to figure out the designs by the photos. I now have bought 2 additional books in English as well. I have placed a new album in my online photos.
