Magazine renewals

I received an offer from Quiltmaker to renew my subscription today - I went to the web page where there is a 40% savings offer + free pattern for new subscriptions. Why would I want to renew when I could save $17 on a 2year new subscription? Why would anyone want to pay more to renew? I don't mind missing an issue when my current subscription runs out and the new one kicks in - same applied recently with bhg patchwork quilts and I received a duplicate copy before they sorted out the extension of my subscription. jennellh

Many magazines are HURTING big time -- due to the Internet. I've noticed with several of my subscriptions that they send renewal cards about every 6 months (including some of my quilting magazines)!! I hold onto the card and wait until I receive the next issue and look at the label. There is almost always a "code" that tells how long your subscription will go...

In the "olden days" -- you only got the renewal notice when you were about to expire (well -- your subscription was about to expire!). Before I realized the change in frequency -- and before I started keeping track... I got the card and if I like the magazine I sent in the renewal.

I'm good on several magazines until 2010 (and 2012 on one of them!!!)

So keep track of your subscriptions -- they'll keep sending you the renewal notices -- even if your subscription isn't due to expire for a good long time!!!

That's how they get you to subscribe. Internet service providers do the same thing, new subscribers get a good deal for the first 3 months, then the price goes up to the 'regular' price. Satellite TV does that, also. You subscribe to a book club, you get 6 or 7 books almost free, then you have to start paying for them!

I received an email reply from Quiltmaker this am - they will honour the lower website price on a renewal subscription for my magazine - they apologized for the higher priced 'special' offer. In this case, logic has paid off. I don't object to so-called special startup rates for new customers and realize that full price is applicable after a certain time period
