Making HST

When I need a lot of the same HST I use Triangles-on-a-Roll. Very easy and no guess work. (Thangles or Triangle Paper would also work.) If you do the strip method, you should cut bias strips so that the cut edges are straight grain. And for 2" finished squares you need more than 2 1/2" I think...................

Not if you cut your strips on the bias.

Did you try this? Did it work? We need to know :-)

The standard "strip" method for HST is to cut BIAS strips. Sew them all together very carefully to avoid stretching, so you have a single pieced "rectangle" (the edges will be slanted of course = parallelogram). Use a bias square ruler (or some other square template) to cut squares, matching the bias line to your sewn line. Start cutting in the middle of the piece. When you have cut enough squares to make it separate in 2, sew the old bias edges together to make a new whole piece.

To find out how wide to cut the bias strips, measure half the length of the bias line (diagonal) of the finished square, plus about 3/4" for seam allowances. (Round up to the next convenient cutting width.) Roberta in D
