mapmuse quilt shops & guilds

Howdy!

This from Quilt-Talk:

Hi,

About one year ago, Mapmuse.com began a project- the interactive mapping of quilting shops across the US. We initially researched and populated these maps ourselves, with the idea in mind that quilting enthusiasts would subsequently add to, and enhance, the information we provided. A few months later, at the suggestion of MapMuse visitors, we added maps for quilting guilds and quilt appraisers. Since this project was started, the public has made hundreds of additions and enhancements to these maps. We now have one of the most comprehensive databases of quilting shops and guilds in the US. If you were one of our contributors, we'd like to thank you for your help!

I'm writing today to ask that if you know of any quilting shops, quilting guilds, or appraisers that have opened or closed in the last year, that you make those changes to the maps. Also, we encourage you to add any shops or guilds that we are still missing. In this way, we hope to keep the maps current and useful for everyone. This listing continues to be free.

The link to the Quilting Shops map is: http://find. mapmuse.com/ interest/ quilting_ shops For Quilting Guilds, see: http://find. mapmuse.com/ interest/ quilting_ guilds For Quilt Appraisers: http://find. mapmuse.com/ interest/ quilt_appraisers You may also find our Fabric Stores Map of interest: http://find. mapmuse.com/ interest/ fabric_stores If you are not familiar with MapMuse.com, we are a highly trafficked mapping website with over 500,000 visitors a month. MapMuse's goal is to help people find places related to their interests. MapMuse continues to add new topics of interest each week. If you have a topic that you would like to see mapped, you can suggest the interest on the MapMuse site, and there is a good chance it will be addressed.

Lastly, if you have a quilting related blog, newsletter, or website, a link or a mention would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Cindy Jett ~~~~~~~~~

But apparently noone is verifying this information. I just looked at several of the New England states and there are numerous errors that someone should have recognized. For example: The thing list Sunshine Carousel Quilt shop with a New Hampshire address, which is correct, but the little icon for that shop is on the New York/Vermont border. The Norton House in Wilmington Vermont shows up in the correct place, but then also shows up in Bellows Falls, VT.

This MapMuse announcement was posted to several lists at once. It's not particularly accurate . . . and if it's so great, why hasn't been promoted? Word of mouth marketing goes a long way on these quilting lists.

Howdy!

They ask for corrections and additions. How long has it been around? RCTQ was young once, and how look how word of mouth worked here. No offense intended, Nann, for passing this along, word of mouth or otherwise.

Howdy!

Have you submitted corrections/additions?

The info for the north Tx. shops I checked was accurate. As with most such sites I'd use it as a guide, not gospel truth. YMMV

This has been around for a little while. I know at one time there were some shops listed that had been out of business for quite some time. Some were put in the wrong states with the correct state address. A shop owner that I know, said she had contacted them twice to correct her information, they never replied to her, and never changed the information. This was discussed at a guild meeting one night, and several local LQS shop owners were present, and they said they had not been impressed with this project since nothing was being corrected. Maybe they have gotten their act together now.

Tucson looks good, though there is a new shop in Catalina--I must rush up there next weekend and get particulars--and maybe buy a little fabric................

And I see the quilt shop in Sahuarita isn't listed, either. Or the shop in Patagonia. Gee, maybe a good S.E.X. trip is indicated!

I just tried to add several of my local quilt stores to the map and they wanted to charge me $9.95 per shop. Did anyone else have this happen to them?
