Meet-up in Arizona June 4 to 6?

We are planning a trip to the Grand Canyon this June. I have promised my husband this is a sight seeing trip not a quilt shop hop but would love to meet any of you in the following areas:

Williams late afternoon of June 4 Flagstaff about noon on June 5 Phoenix late afternoon on June 5 and all day Monday.

While in Phoenix Dave has site he wants to visit so we will have to work around that. We might stay at least part of the day on Tuesday. We haven't purchased our plane tickets yet. Dave has the entire week off so no real need to rush back.

Please contact me privately (slpdesigns at speakeasy dot net).

Off on a dirt road here, Susan, but I reckon it's something we need to think about. Sister just returned from a trip to visit Phoenix and her precious granddaughter. Somewhere on the trip, CA, I think, someone bashed a brick through her rental car's window and snatched her purse. Could have happened anywhere of course. We had to do some fancy maneuvering to get her acceptable i.d. for the TSA guys. No such thing as a duplicate dr lic quickly. We connected enough to get a certified voter registration and overnighted it to her. TSA accepted the voter card but ( we're told) gave her quite a thorough search. Red-haired retired school teachers are apparently a hot item on the suspicious list. SIL took pictures of the airport ordeal and I think he plans to sell them to the highest bidder. Moral of story? I reckon you'd better keep your i.d. safely tucked in your pompadour (or somewhere close). Polly

Something else to worry about. DH and I will driving a rental car from D.C. to Houston in Oct. We'll keep all possessions out of sight in trunk. And I NEVER leave my purse anywhere but on me, and that includes at home (I mean outside of the home) too! I hope the rental car is not badged as such. Bad people everywhere .

Susan, you and Dave have a wonderful safe trip and enjoy the GC.

Bronnie, One thing is that most people are not bad. Us good folk outnumber the bad by a lot. Zillions of folks rent cars without any problem. I remember when we lived in a ratty part of a big city and dh left his car and house keys lying on the top of the hood. This was on street parking. They sat there a day or two and nobody touched them. Go figure. You will be fine. Luck and caution go a long way. Taria

Thanks Taria I'm not really worrying. We travelled across the US for 5 weeks in '09 and had a wonderful time, blown away by your countrypersons' fine hospitality along the way. And I am sure looking forward to that again, sans broken ankle!!! Bronnie

Times have changed. I think I was hoping to suggest that carrying your only identification in your purse is not enough. Probably the airlines or some Google spot will suggest what you might do to prevent being rejected at the airport. It may be as simple as having your county clerk make a certified copy of your driver's license that you can carry in an inside pocket of your britches. My little Moma didn't believe in credit cards or banks and traveled with vast quantities of cash. She really did. She stitched neat little pockets in her underwear to safely tuck away her 'mad' money. I'm just wanting you to have happy travel. Polly

Yes they do. When I went to Canada - perhaps two years ago? - I used them all the time. I did not want to use my credit card. . In message , Taria writes

Bronnie, There are good and bad people all over the world, I'm glad your trip here last time was full of the good. I know when we traveled from NY to CA we met the nicest people on our trip. I carried a prepaid Visa card. Everyplace took it, and no bulky bills or checks to carry. I did have some cash, but not big bills. My handbag is always on the floor behind me, when i'm driving and under my feet when a passenger. It may take a little more effort to retrieve, but for the most part--- safer. Out of sight, out of mind...or temptation's way. Have fun at the GC and on your trip, you're going at the best time. Wish I could meet up with you.
