Merry Christmas

I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday.

We've been having a couple of crazy days and almost ended up in a Bah, Humbug mood a couple of times.

Tuesday we headed up to the Chicago-area and ran into a snowstorm. Then discovered that a couple of suburban municipalities aren't salting this winter. Grrr!

After Christmas Eve day at my brothers, we drove back here to Springfield. And got up early so David could make raisin tarts for his Dad. Only to discover that he didn't have the lard he wanted for the pastry crust. Good thing I talked him into calling the grocery store before he went out! It was closed of course.

The reason we came home Christmas Eve was to save a few dollars on hotel--David's family wasn't going to celebrate until today. And I couldn't imagine just sitting around in an empty hotel all day yesterday anyway. We'd have driven each other crazy.

So we'd invited another family for dinner. We made a lovely roast and ended up holding it for two hours while we waited for our guests to show up (very late! That really put us both in a bad mood.)

Up again early today so David could get the lard. And listen to the weather report. David learns there is supposed to be an ice storm in the Chicago-area today. Which we definitely don't want to drive into.

So we call his Dad to say we'll be there tomorrow instead. And get a lot of grief about waiting a day. (And seriously, since they didn't decide until Tuesday to even have a family Christmas, and no one is doing any cooking, I'm really hard pressed to believe the crackers and cheese won't hold for one day!) After much hemming and hawing, it was determined that they'd see about it and call us back. David went to bed to take a nap.

So now it's 10:30, still no tarts, and no idea if we have to be somewhere today or not. Bah, Humbug!

The only good thing I can see in all this is if we don't have to go to Glen Ellyn today, I can play around with my EQ6 Drawing book this afternoon.
