money for more fabric!

I just saved a bit over $100 by unclogging the garbage disposal myself and not having to pay the plumber to do it, so I figure that will get me a nice little pile of more fabric! Every time I have to unclog the disposal I fondly remember the plumber who showed me how to do it myself, and then go splurge on fabric for another quilt!

Well, I'm in need of fabric for sashing and backing for a sampler quilt, plus batting, so that will certainly eat a chunk, and the rest may go toward a very nice scissors or new cutting mat.

What a good idea! You know, we could make a whole list of DIY chores that we might otherwise pay for. I have no garbage disposal, but washing windows must count for something. Roberta in D

Hummmmmm I wonder how much I'm saving by stripping wallpaper. I'd sure hate to be paying anyone by the hour for doing this!

When we tried that we ended up having to hire a dry wall mechanic to re do the slip coat, the taping and so on. It was a real bother!!

I can save $ 16,000 if I buy a new Lincoln by Mother's Day. We could really have a party with that. Ah, yes. Somehow, DH misses the logic of that one. Silly man. Polly

It costs me £25 to have my windows cleaned and that's a bungalow. So, you can work out how much you are saving from that perhaps - we do have a small conservatory, though >g< . In message , Roberta Zollner writes

Oh Polly! what a wonderful piece of logic.

So I have savings I make from using Jamie my window cleaner rather than yours! On the other hand perhaps its worth more to have someone who doesn't spend the whole time on his cellphone. I always wonder who else is in the garden with him until I remember his phone addiction, and when I see him cleaning shop windows in town he is still talking away.

Do I get a year's savings to spend or the 6 years we have had him!

If you buy it you need to test drive it. My house would be a pretty fair test I think.

I stripped wallpaper full time for 3 weeks at the other house. It was a thankless job until we sold the house. When we got the check I just figured the wallpaper stripp> I can save $ 16,000 if I buy a new Lincoln by Mother's Day. We could really

Never try to wallpaper with your spouse. It will lead to bad things. Perhaps divorce. I learned that lesson early in my marriage, and since then whenever it was time to wallpaper, or to take down wallpaper, I have made certain to do the job all by myself. If DH insists on doing it, I let him do it without my presence in the room.

Stick with me, I'm going somewhere BIG with this.....

That means that I've avoided divorce by paying attention to this rule. Anybody know how much a divorce lawyer costs? Court costs? Therapy for the boys after the divorce leaves them feeling bereft???? And obviously I've saved my husband from making child support payments and from living a horrible, lonely life that would require huge amounts of alcohol and loose women to ease the pain of losing me.

Clearly, I have saved thousands and thousands of dollars over the years. Oh my, am I ready to hit the LQS or what?

Unclogging my disposal involves emptying the cabinet under the sink, putting a very large towel and a large bucket under the disposal, and removing the pipe connecting the disposal to the rest of the pipes. The clog is almost always in that pipe section. Once that section is removed and emptied, it is replaced, and all the water cleaned up. The pipe initially usually spews a lot of water that misses the bucket no matter where I put it, so the towel helps! Since the pipe and connectors are PVC it is very simple to remove, clean, and replace them. To have a plumber do the unclogging is a fee just to come to the house, plus a fee for the time to do the job.

Too funny! In Denmark there is a saying about a newly wed couple wallpapering their first home as a true test of their love for each other.
