i usually use the no-waste flying geese as shown on patchpieces.com doe anyone know the formula used on the link above making only two of them. there are times ya only need/want two of one colour/fabric so thot i'd ask. at this time of day it took the old brain a few seconds to comprehend how it worked. i see its basically making an offset QST and cutting it down the middle into two FGs. very clever and so useful i just want to know the formula for it. perhaps there is another place these are online? anyone got a link for me to go look at? groggy in the south pacific, j.more on Flying Geese!!

IIRC - if you use a 6.5" "sky" and a 5.5" "geese" block to start, and sew with a scant 1/4" seam you finish with a
4.5X2.5" FG unit (4X2" finished).I have it all somewhere - will try to put up a link later.

BTW - it makes FOUR units, not two.
Should have added - units made like this can require a LITTLE trimming all round (not just one side) to get precise measurements, but wastage is not too bad.

I like the book that published this method - All the Blocks are Geese by Mary Sue Suit. Came out back in '94 but I guess it is still around.
Jeanne, you still get 4 from the 2 squares. That is the method that Eleanor Burns uses and has rulers for. But I don't remember the "formula" for it. sigh.

That's my favorite "geese" method, too. I first encountered that method in a Quilt in a Day pattern; their "flying geese" ruler utilizes that method, but in only a few sizes. Mary Sue's is much more flexible and gives perfect geese every time.
