My first big quilt But!!!!!!!!!!!

It's really pretty, Shirley; and not at all a mistake. Quilting is often quite difficult to manage, for the first time, using a domestic machine. You would soon get used to some little tricks that work for you. So, I guess you're going to have to do another one! Or, you could just settle for making small pieces. I make lots of miniatures - they're fun and don't have to be difficult. If you liked playing with fabric, there will be solutions for you. . In message , Shirley Shone writes

I think your quilt turned out great! You should've seen my first quilt! :) Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) it never got photographed before going to the recipient. However, I understand it's still in use, even though it's been mended and repaired several times. It has to be over 20 years old and has been in daily use on the bed, since then.

Even though you think you didn't do as good as you wanted to, it will always be a special piece of work that you will cherish as the start of something. I look at my first efforts and see all kinds of errors, and things I would now do differently, but wouldn't get rid of my first one for anything. It only gave me the opportunity to do better with each successive one. Keep at it, you only get better with each try. I think it looks grand, by the way.

Howdy!

Yee-Haw! You did it!

Fabric choices: good! Color placement: good! Design: good! Finished quilt: very good!

Fun and fresh and gorgeous and Finished! Way to go, Shirley. Don't stop now; I'm waiting to see where your quilting goes next.

Hugs, Ragmop/Sandy--who would be proud to have this Shirley Quilt #1 draped on a chair in the front room ;-)

I knew you could I KNEW you could I KNEW YOU COULD

And YOU DID and I'm as proud of it as if I did it myself.

and there better BE a next. Remember a few months back when I sent you a bit for 2 quilts..........well # 1 is done--so now start # 2 and no, you do not have to do the same pattern design or colors unless YOU want to.

Just DO IT.

But, but,. but, Mi'Dear, SHE needs to keep her first one

I have visions of her writing her first book on quilting and she will always have it to refer back to as HER FIRST. I don't have mine and sometimes I wish I had....

Thanks. Like I said before when I joined this group I had no intention of quilting. I just did the bead centre of the Enschede quilt.

Butterfly said otherwise and she won. Hugs Shirley

Thanks for your message. I doubt if I will be around in 20 years time. My heart threw a wobbler last week after I had spent two days machining. It was very scary for a time. Maybe with the continued lifting of my arms. Shirley

Thanks John. I too keep the first of everything I make, that is why I have drawers full of jewellery. I think I have more jewellery than anyone else in our village. LOL Hugs Shirley

Thank you. The garden is taking on its spring coat at the moment. There are spring bulbs popping up all over and the Boston Ivy is beginning to shoot. Both ponds are full of frog spawn. Who knows what will grow this year because last autumn I liberally sprinkled poppy seeds all over, unknown to DH. I like the wild look and like to encourage birds and butterflies.

I hope I may get another robin that I can train to feed from my hand like I did 2 years ago. A pair came to my feeder 2 weeks ago but did not stay. Shirley
